Brind'Amour back with Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Former Carolina Hurricanes captain Rod Brind'Amour is now the club's director of forwards development.

The team said Sunday that the popular center who retired this summer would be responsible for working with all forwards in the organization.

General manager Jim Rutherford says the noted workout warrior "is already displaying the same work ethic and dedication in his new role as he did with us as a player."

In June, Brind'Amour ended a two-decade playing career in which he won the Selke Trophy in 2006 and '07 and was the captain of the Hurricanes' only Stanley Cup championship team in 2006.

He joins Glen Wesley, Ron Francis and Tom Barrasso as former Carolina players who have taken management positions with the club.

always been in the back of my mind that if the 'Canes didn't offer up something to get him to stick around (chances were slim of that, of course), then maybe Philly may have offered him a "Director of _______ _________" position to bring him back.

You can bet your left nut Holmgren inquired about his "availability" with the Cane's hierarchy before Roddy decided to accept that position and stay put.

I personally would have loved to see him back in Philly, but I'm not upset he chose to remain in Carolina.
