I'm just saying that I give GMGM the Benefit of the doubt when dealing with these type of situations. You're right though, the caps can afford to play around with the 2nd line with thier offence if they decide to go down that road because they have enough offense without a decent 2nd line center anyway. But yeah, D-man pleese! Hasn't really been talked about much, but Shaone Morrisonn could still be re-signed, and I'm not really sure how I would feel about that. I mean I would rather have someone more proven and a vet, but ShoMo isn't horrible

i think that's more my point...with so much cap space, why leave it as is? sure you want that cushion come deadline day, but, they've plenty to work with. JMO. of course, i'm content with them leaving it where it is. or even downgrading if they feel it's necessary :)

6 million now is about 19 million at the cap....

Also, McPhee does not want any long term deals whickh likely turns a lot of people off.

yeah, the trend of long term is just unsettling IMO...there's gonna be some GMs that get burnt soon. sure, it's nice to lower the cap hit, but it's still a nasty gamble.

read on twitter yesterday that when asked if that was the end of the Caps moves this offseason, GMGM said simply "Yes." So, pack it in for the summer caps fans, apparently that's it. Still a great team, but why not at least try to pick up a Dman or something? just weird to me i guess.

I agree. I thought they should add one defensive player. But if the Caps are going to make any moves, it's apparently going to be around midseason.

Laugh all you want. We're still better than PIT or PHI... :)

I think several reasons. One, they're going to have to re-sign Varly, Neuvirth, and Carlson in the next year or two at beyond their entry level deals. Meaning you may have somewhere in the neighborhood of $4-8 million going to two of those guys come next season. Two, they want to give some of the talented young guys in the system - Carlson, Alzner, Perreault, and Johansson - a chance to see if they can do the job and then assess the needs based on how they perform and what their "real" needs are, not their prospective needs.

That said, I only agree with the approach about 80%. They have Semin and Poti both coming off the cap next year ($10 million between them) and signing a guy like Volenchenkov would not have handcuffed the franchise, but maybe have been the signing to put this team over the top.

I think they are doing a great job, but the whole Jagr/Nylander experience may have pushed management a little too far to the other extreme.
