Is there a cure or a way to slow if diagnosed? I know it would be good to know why you might be having mood swings or issues, but if there isn't a fix then that would be a rough thing to live with.

Maybe if they can diagnose it, they can find a way to treat it if not reverse it.

Is this that new? I would have thought we could identify it in at least extreme cases for a while.

I also have had various brain scans a couple years back as a result of a history of concussions and the explanation didn't use the phrase CTE, but basically that's what it was looking for.

Should have posted the latest study out of UCLA:

UCLA study finds signs of CTE in living former NFL players for the first time - ESPN

UCLA study first to image concussion-related abnormal brain proteins in retired NFL players / UCLA Newsroom

I know learning about CTE had a huge impact on how I view the Chris Benoit tragedy

No more than it changes my opinion of some one who served 3 terms in Iraq/Nam or any other hell hole, came home with PTSD and in the end lost there shit and hurt others. I feel for what he went through. But only to a certain point.

I realize that. One is basically physical damage of the brain (CTE), the other is physiological damage of the brain. (PTSD)

Bottom line, different injuries, same result. I feel for the injured, but that in no way mitigates the damage that in this case he did to others. Least not in my book.

NO I havent seen the movie. And both are a type of brain damage medically speaking, just the method on how the damage occurs is different.

well, i am no medical expert.

but I was very skeptical about the whole CTE issue ...

until i watched that movie

i dont think anyone can speak on this without having seen it

unless they are already a medical expert

IM no medical expert, but I do know PTSD, and alot of the behaviors they describe with CTE (Lack of Impulse control, questionable decision or reasoning ability, massive mood swings, possible suicidal behavior) a whole lot of correlation aside from what actually caused the damage.

right ... but its more then just behavior, like PTSD

its a physical change in the chemistry of the brain.

its like they become bi-polar ?

OH i get that. But I will say again you likely have not known any one with a bad case of PTSD?

As I said, I feel for him to a degree

Well tell your Dad I thank him for his service. And I can imagine as I come from a military family.

As for a bad case of untreated PTSD... John Allen Muhammad comes to mind.

i guess my opinion right now ... & i could be wrong ... because i am no medical expert

but i am thinking PTSD is emotionally fucked up ... but still understand the difference between right and wrong

while CTE ... physical change ... they have no control of themselves cause they coo coo ?
