What do you think the reason is that Brady wanted the ability of the road team to be able to bring their own footballs to road games?

Maybe because he has small hands and can throw under inflated footballs better than the ones that are legally filled with air?

Brady pushed for rule to let visiting team provide own footballs

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has long wanted control over the footballs he throws, to the point where he was the driving force behind a rules change that allowed visiting teams to provide their own footballs, rather than having both teams use footballs provided by the home team.

In 2006, Brady and Peyton Manning successfully lobbied the league to let every team provide its own footballs to use on offense. Prior to that, it was always the home team that supplied the footballs, which meant that road team quarterbacks didn’t get to try the footballs out until pregame warmups.

Brady said at the time that he appreciated the opportunity to address the league’s Competition Committee and get a rule change that he felt would be advantageous to himself and other quarterbacks.

“The thing is, every quarterback likes it a little bit different,” Brady told the Sun-Sentinel at the time. “Some like them blown up a little bit more, some like them a little more thin, some like them a little more new, some like them really broken in.”

Brady’s comments come into new focus this week as the NFL investigates whether the Patriots deflated footballs in the AFC Championship Game, in violation of NFL rules. After Patriots coach Bill Belichick said today that he knows nothing about how balls are prepared prior to games, increased attention has turned to whether Brady was behind deflating the footballs.

Tom Brady is known to have rather large mitts from what I've read.

To the OP. The originator of the lobby was World Hero Peyton Manning. The league was considering only allowing brand new, right out of the box footballs only on game day. The balls that Manning used and still use take three days to prepare. They are brushed with a special brush to remove the gloss surface. Then they're soaked in warm water for 6-8 hours. They are then re-brushed and allowed to dry. Then they are re-soaked in water for another 6-8 hours and brushed again. Finally, they are soaked for 24 hours, place on a machine to be spun dry and brushed one final time. The ball Manning uses is like a felt ball and is about 5 shades darker than a new ball.

He not the only QB to prep balls, his brother is even worse. Tom Coughlin joked one time that the Eli Manning balls were protected better than the US Treasury.

This Deflate -Gate is just another media driven sensationalized pile of shit.

Pretty sure that is all that his brother does. I don't think Manning does all that. At least I have never read it anywhere so if you can produce the source then I would love to read it. Yes I do know Manning doctors his footballs and he was part of the group that got the NFL to do this but his balls still meet regulations at the end of the day.

Why did it not help him?

Tom Brady

1st half with deflated ball 11/21 (52%) 95 yards 1 TD & 1 INT
2nd half with the inflated ball 12/14 (86%) 155 yards 2 TD's

hahaha, Brady changes rules too?!? Oh boy!

Oh boy

Madden said the rules changed, largely due to the efforts of quarterback Peyton Manning, who wanted quarterbacks to handle the balls before the game. So since 2006 it has not been illegal for quarterbacks to handle the footballs before a game.

There is no question that a player's ability to grip the ball is impacted by how much it is inflated, but Madden is perplexed by comments from Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who claims to like the football inflated to the max, and maybe then some.

"Never heard that one," Madden said. "You learn when you are a kid that is it harder to handle a football or basketball, to grip them, when they are inflated too much and conversely it is easier to grip when they are underinflated."

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. I think every qb does have a preference.
