sorry, but can't agree with the OP. Keep in mind this team was garbage before he took over at Thanksgiving a few seasons back. And when you don't have the horses, you don't win in the playoffs...and the Caps don't have the horses.

Sorry, but they are a girl who looks great from a distance but the closer you get your regret walking towards here. Green is the most overrated player in the league. He's terrible in his own end. The Caps should trade him now before he has another crap D season and can't get anything for him. If the Bhawks sign Campbell for 6.5 per, then the Caps can unload Green's contract.

And Semin is the invisible man. He floats around the perimeter taking 35 foot snap shots off balance and won't drive the net or go into corners in the playoffs.

The Caps should go after Volchekov or whatever his name is from Ottawa. They need that type of grit on the blueline. He played like a warrior v. Pitt. They need guys like that on the blueline in DC because other than Schultz and Poti, no will will even swing their purse to deliver a hit on that blueline. I was amazed how often the Caps D just gave up their own blueline on even man rushes and collapsed automatically below their faceoff circles. They gave the Habs the top 30 feet of their zone and created no jam in the neutral zone. combine that with a goalie who stole games 6 & 7, that is why the Habs won.

It had nothing to do with Boudreau. He doesn't have the horses on the blueline and 2 of his top scorers disappear come every playoff.

I agree about Green. The last thing you want in a D-man is to be bad in his own end. The problem with Green in the playoffs is that he's bad at both ends.

I doubt Boudreau is fired after leading his team to the president's trophy, but I fear it's just delaying the inevitable. For whatever reason, the Caps just don't get it done in the playoffs. Sooner or later, that shortcoming has to lie at the feet of the HC.

He's a soft players coach like Wade Phillips is for the Cowboys. Nice guys finish last.

Are we still not giving credit to Montreal? Fire sale in Pittsburgh if they lose game 7?!

Of players, yes. But I think a great deal of turnover is iminent regardless of the outcome of this and any potentially following games. The roster will look different next year.

Coaches, I can only see Yeo getting canned. Granato might be in the running for a head coaching job, as well.

showing my face....

I don't have the same opinion as Bylsma. The circumstance are different in every way except they both lost in game 7. Bylsma's history is better than Brucey's.

I haven't heard one mention of this loss being accredited to Bylsma because it really shouldn't be. Piss poor goaltending at the beginning of games loss this series. Montreal scored on their first shot of the game in 3 games on BAD fucking goals. This allowed the Habs to just sit back and pretty much put 6 guys in front of the net the entire game.

I give credit to the Habs though, they were able to capitalize on the chances they were given. The deserved to win this series.

Now what I think will/should happen in the offseason.

D
Gonchar gone= 5.5 off the books

Eaton and Leopold resign
Lovejoy brought up

F
Guerin gone
Fedetanko gone

Resign
I really could see them signing Poni. Not that, that would be a good sign.
Cooke fits well with Staals line.
Eaton is really growing on me. The guy is solid.

Lines should look something like this

Kunitz-Crosby-Tangradi
Talbot-Malkin-Ponikarovski
Cooke-Staal-Kennedy
Rupp-Adams-Dupuis

Letang-Orpik
Eaton-Goligoski
Leopold-Lovejoy

It will be interesting if these same folks that were so quick in calling for Broudreau's head have the same opinion for Bylsma now.

People act like this is some weird phenomenon. As far as I know...in every sport...you get questioned until you win big (or at least go far).

Bylsma already did it. Sure, if he has early exits for the next four years, people can ask if it was a fluke, but winning a Cup obviously gives you a longer leash.

This was in reference to the original post that claimed Broudreau choked. I am in no way questioning Bylsma but then again I never placed the blame on Broudreau either.

I will however give Martin and the Habs full credit for beating two highly talented, puck possesion teams in simular fashion. In both series they were able to create scoring off the rush and capitalize on turnovers along with weathering the storm in thier own zone with excellent defense and goaltending.

Coaches much like goalies are sometimes given too much credit with a win and far too much blame for a loss. Execution by a team as a whole is usually the deciding factor.

That's my point too, eloco. There are plenty of coaches who wish they had Boudrea's record in the regular season and playoffs! I can't see firing a guy for contending since his arrival. Don't hear anyone calling for Trotz or Ruff to be fired. WTF?

Fast forward almost six years later and the coaching carousel has Trotz doing great in Washington, Boudreau has the Ducks rolling, and Ruff is doing pretty good in Dallas.

And still none have a Cup nor will they after this season.

Ok, Trotz might.
