This is true. So many cases are unique and sometimes doctors over prescribe meds. I agree with 46 on that point for sure.

i would hope however a review is done in his case on his addiction and what was prescribed. something was missed but I leave that to his family to find out.

I have a friend who was very close with him and he had been clean for almost a year despite wht you may have heard in the press. Greg would have had no reason to lie to this friend and the friend had no reason to lie to me. This culture of uncontrolled (not what Boss is talking about, he is doing it the RIGHT way) use of opiate and opiate derivative painkillers is a serious public health issue.

I know addicts! One year of sober living does not make them not an addict anymore. And to say that he would have no reason to lie is....mind boggling. That's what drug addicts do. They lie to cover up their actions. They steal prescription pads from doctors to prescribe meds to themselves. They buy prescription meds from drug dealers. They make up injuries or hurt themselves to get access to more pain killers.

I don't know. This is all very said. Jeff Conaway is in a coma right now too.

I go to pain management because of three spinal surgeries requiring implants. I also take pain medication monitored by monthly visit's.

Rule number one, Everyone is told NOT to drink alcohol by their pain management doctor. It's also clearly marked on the pain med container.

Rule number two, You get tox tested periodically without notice (urine and blood) and the test MUST be performed within 24 hours. The reason for the test is to insure that you have no street drugs or alcohol in your system.

This has nothing to do with fighting in hockey or legalizing marijuana but EVERYTHING to do with someone not doing their job.

I hate to sound like a prick but I'm calling a spade a spade.

To judge Boogard is unfair. Opiates are a devil drug, along with Crack. Unfortunately I have experiences in my life from people I love dealing with these things. When you are addicted to these drugs you don't see the entire picture anymore. You have tunnel vision to the n'th degree. Nobody goes into taking these drugs thinking they will turn out like that, it just happens. Most people are pier pressured into trying these things and when they do it they don't think they are getting addicted before it is to late.

Please dont judge addiction, you don't know what this guy was dealing with.



On a side note--- Pot should be legal in so many ways. It would help people get off of hard drugs as well as help with pain management.

What appears to be the most likely scenarios...lack of common sense, addiction, or intentional suicide from mental issues...can't be determined from what we know, and probably never will. So I can't see how we can make determinations on whether we should feel sorry for him.

To be honest this is an area that free speech sucks. 28 yr old person has died and all of the media and us need to know how why what etc.

Should be for family only and leave it be.

Once again I was not a fan of his but show some respect. Leave the man be and his family.

He was a kick ass friend, teammate, and human being. That has been fully documented well before his death.

As far as what happened, what he was thinking, and what he was going through? I don't know shit and neither do any of you. The only ones with that answer are Mr. Boogaard and his maker.
