I just hope it's not connected to the concussion problems he had this year

I sure hope not.
If they somehow make that connection, rapid and sweeping changes will follow.
With the tragedy of the little girl hit with the puck, we got nets in every rink.

Please be wrong, such a shame that the Boogeyman is gone, one hell of a fighter.

If it was concussion issues, I think we are in for a massive overhaul, and not for the better, (see NFL)..

Terrible news for sure. I haven't read the complete thread yet but I wonder what happened. RIP Derek.

You're both right. If they do come to that conclusion there is going to be big time changes made. If nothing else the NHL will worry about future litigation in cases like this.

Best to see what they come up with first. Sad news though.

Wow... RIP Boogeyman. Too bad, way too young. I'm sure they will find a way to link this to his concussion unless it is heart related.

My biggest fear as a fan is that if it is a brain injury/death type case, It will be the end of fighting in the league. That's why I hope it's not the case.. I never saw the Boogeyman get rocked in any fights so it may be something totally un realated.

Tough to know what to make of this one. I don't think it's drugs, Boogeyman didn't seem like the type to use. From what I've heard, the guy was a complete fitness freak. I guess that doesn't rule out steroids, but I'll believe that when I see proof.

This guy might have been an animal on the ice, but he was a class act off. He ran a youth hockey camp and was very involved with the sport at the ground level. Like most goons, the meaner they are on the ice, the nicer they are off it.

Yeah, doctors and scientists love to "find a way...." to link things. (heavy sarcasm) If it is, it is.

People will argue. Nothing will be done because nobody wants to see the obvious.

If I had to hazard a guess, however I would guess heart condition, qt his size. The head stuff usually takes time.

Just out of curiosity, how big do you have to be for the whole "unexpected heart failure" thing to become a possible problem?

You can be any size, but it is more prevalent in larger individuals.

Gaines Adams is the mos recent example that I can remember. It happens a lot with pro athletes, unfortunately.
