I can't see the Jets going WR here, and especially not one who's strictly a slot guy. They would take Patterson if they take WR. I think they go defense though, and take Ziggy Ansah.

I've seen multiple reports that they love Austin and are thinking about taking him.

Mistake if they do. They don't have any outside guys to draw coverage. I'd much rather take Patterson in that situation.

I disagree. He can run any route from the slot or backfield. He is by far the most explosive player in this draft.

Awesome, so they have a legit WR and no QB to get him the ball, holes all over the place on defense. I hope they do take him, and get back to be the Jets of the past in the draft with their questionable 1st round picks.

You have to give Sanchez a chance. He has 0 weapons, no run game, no TE. No matter how good that D is, unless you give Sanchez some weapons this team is dead.

Honestly, no I don't. Sanchez has demonstrated almost no ability to improve over the past 3 seasons, only keep losing his job, getting benched, bitch, moan and groan, and still wind up a stinker.

Tebow would be a better option at QB than Sanchez.

Everyone knows how I feel about Star Lotulelei but he is a 3-4 Defensive End like Haloti Ngata, THAT'S WHY HE WOULD HAVE BEEN A PERFECT MATCH FOR PHILADELPHIA.... but I digress, and would not be a good fit for the Jets as they are moving from a 3-4 to a 4-3 this season. They spent a 1st Round pick on Muhammad Wilkerson and a 3rd on Kenrick Ellis in 2011 then came back and spent a 1st on Quinton Coples last season. So they are set at the defensive tackle and left defensive positions. What they lack is a 4-3 speed rushing DE. Now don't get me wrong I think Ezekiel Ansah would be a great fit but they already have a LDE in Coples. If the season were to start today Calvin Pace or Ricky Sapp would probably be their starting DRE, which would not bode well for that defense. Plus lets not forget that they're looking to bring NT Sione Pouha back at a cheaper price.

LDE- Quinton Coples (6'6" 290)
LDT- Kenrick Ellis (6'4" 346)
RDT- Muhammad Wilkerson (6'4" 315)
RDE- Calvin Pace (6'4 265) |Ricky Sapp (6'4" 255)

I think they should take Star in that case, but I see the reasoning they should take Tavon. The WR's they had last year were the worst in the league. He is by far the most explosive player in the draft. They need something on offense if they want Sanchez to have a chance. They obviously are sticking with him.

That is a very good point with all that, but many outlets report the Jets are in serious need of DT and I think if Star fell this far, it would be hard to pass up. I imagine Rex would love to have a defensive line like the Bengals where he can switch guys in and out of the lineup to give them breathers while having solid backups to come in and produce at just as high of a level.

As I said, I can see Ansah here, and it could go either way, who knows, maybe the Jets will pull a "Jets" on opening day and surprise everyone.

Star was a 4-3 DT in college.

Yes, I am aware he was a DT in college but we all know players switch positions based upon the scheme of the team drafting them. Just like how most 3-4 OLB's were DE's in college. But every mock I've seen has him going to a 3-4 teams as a DE.

excerpt~

The athletic Lotulelei can do just about anything at the next level. In a 4-3, he could play nose tackle or be a three-technique. For a 3-4 defense, Lotulelei could play defensive end or nose tackle. Given his versatility, it is difficult to say which position would be his best because he could excel at all of them.

Player Comparison: Haloti Ngata. The power and explosion that Lotulelei possesses reminds me of Ngata. Both players are extremely disruptive at the point of attack and command multiple blockers. Ngata (6-4, 330) is bigger than Lotulelei right now, but last season Lotulelei was playing around 320. Ngata went to the Ravens with the 12th pick in the 2006 draft and Lotulelei should go higher than that. Lotulelei could be a big impact defender at the line of scrimmage in the NFL, just like Ngata.

NFL Matches: Kansas City, Jacksonville, Oakland, Philadelphia,

The Chiefs could consider Lotulelei with the first pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. It looks like they will come down to Lotulelei, Sharrif Floyd and Luke Joeckel. Lotulelei could be a disruptive five-technique defensive end for Kansas City's 3-4 defense.

The Jaguars could take Lotulelei if he doesn't go first. Jacksonville needs an impact defensive tackle to help its pass rush. The Jaguars are planning a hybrid defense with a lot of different looks, so the versatile Lotulelei fits that extremely well.

Oakland needs a defensive tackle, and Lotulelei could be a good scheme fit for the Raiders. If he falls to the Eagles, he would make sense as a nose tackle or end in their new 3-4 defense.

But that says he can be a 4-3 DT too. So you are proving my point. I know he can play 3-4 DE, but he can also play 4-3 DT and be a beast at it which is why he makes a ton of sense for NYJ.

It makes sense? Really? It makes sense when they already have DT's Kenrick Ellis (6'4" 346), Muhammad Wilkerson (6'4" 315) and are looking to bring back Sione Pouha (6'3" 325), who was a cap casualty, at a cheaper price. That's 3 DT's and no DE's. Calvin Pace is 32 yrs old and have been in the League for 10 yrs. Are you really telling me the Jets wouldn't go in that direction? Seriously?!

They're not switching to an excusive 4-3. Their base will still be 3-4.

Ok, so we have a tie. There are 2 votes for Star Lotulelei, 2 votes for Tavon Austin and 2 votes for Ezekiel Ansah. And though I may not agree that Ansah is the pick I agree with Vance and Grad that the Jets will pick an outside pass rusher, so I'm changing my vote from Dion Jordan to Ezekiel Ansah.

My vote is for Desmond Trufant

Here's a another team that can go in a lot of directions. Before Free Agency I thought they would go for OG Chance Warmack but after signing Andy Levitre to a six year $46.8 million deal I think they go in a different direction. I also thought they could go for a safety in Kenny Vaccaro but again they chose to fill those holes in Free Agency with George Wilson and Bernard Pollard. Their biggest need is at CB as they were constantly lambasted last season by the deep ball and they look to cover their bases as Alterraun Verner hit free agency next season.
