Chicago Blackhawks Salary Cap Chart

So next season with the UFA's off the books they still need 2 forwards and 3 D-men to fill up a roster.
They do have RFA's to resign next season but without a huge bump in the cap they better hope Hossa, Bickell and/or Seabrook can get a new home.

I don't think anybody's stupid enough to take Bickell, so he'll end up in Calgary.

Seabrook only has a year remaining after this season, so he should be easy to trade and get some prospects for. Hossa? How does a team trade for a guy knowing they are 100% going to have to buy him out eventually? That's a tough bargain.

True, but losing two of your top 4 d-men will be tough to swallow.

Agreed

I said earlier in the Hawks thread that anything over $10/year is just too damn much. But it is what it is, and I'd rather keep these guys than let them walk after next season.

Depends on the Canadian dollar. If it can get closer to parity, sure why not? If not, well, the cap very well may stay exactly where it is.

My morbid humor gene kicks in and wonders how much fun it will be in an off season where the cap drops 5 million....:L

LOL - he is like that , but fear not , it's not really my fine City he is slagging it's our Hippie Prez that holds his ire.

Yeah, it's all in good fun, I get it, besides if the first couple of weeks are any indication, you guys don't hesitate taking shots at the Maple Leafs.

/That's a good thing, by the way :thumb:

Hossa could just retire though which, even if he were traded, would leave Chicago on the hook for his cap recapture penalties.

I think that's the riskier prospect with him. And the exact reason the Sabres chose to compliance buyout Ehrhoff rather than trade him.

It's more Burke-related than anything. Calgary would probably be my secondary team if anything.

I just pick all the best franchises...

Cap recapture stays with the team that signed him even if he's traded?!

Cap recapture stays with the team that signed him even if he's traded?!

It applies to whoever got the cap advantage, whether the original signer or the team(s) he's traded to.

See NHL Salary Cap FAQ - How does cap advantage recapture work?

At the time of retirement/defection, the net “cap advantage” will be “recaptured” — charged against the team’s cap in equal amounts each year until the contract expires. This applies to any team that received a net “cap advantage” from the contract — meaning trading the player won’t make the problem go away — except for teams that dealt the player on or prior to Sept. 15, 2012.

Thanks did not know that one.

So the only hope with Hossa now for the Hawks is to Compliance buyout right now. Are they still able to?

Not only is it too late, but Chicago used both their buyouts. Only regular buyouts now.

Apparently not:
Chicago Blackhawks Buyouts remaining: 0. After using their buyouts last summer on Rostislav Olesz and Steve Montador, the Hawks have no more get-out-of-jail-free cards

Oh yeah Seabrook is their only hope to be moved.

Bickell they are SOL with that one just like a few others around the league.
