I just looked and capgeek has them 2.2 over. Hossa is @ 5.75.

Boll makes 3/yr, so an even up swap of Hossa and Boll puts them at the cap. I am willing to help you out, Chicago. Call me.

Edit: Capgeek is without the Kane/Toews deal. That adds 8m. I guess I'll have to take Seabrook and Bickell too. I will give back Savard (1m) and Calvert (1m)

I'd be willing to begin negotiations on Hossa, Seabrook would be a little harder, but I'm willing to cut ties.

Dont forget, that cap is suited up players, not total. I highly doubt Versteeg and Richards will be on the ice at the same time.

No, it's roster players along with any buried money.

The guy who's a healthy scratch still counts against the cap.

That's without the new deals for either player though and - according to CapGeek - would only give them 15 players under contract and already over $70M in cap hit.

Their cap payroll prior to the deals was $44,757,628. Add $21 million and you're at $65,757,628. With 15 players signed, like you said.

You want Jared Boll. You *need* Jared Boll.

I didn't realize this deal didn't start til next year, so you only need to send Hossa to Columbus. We can wait on Seabrook :D

Get rid of Seabrook and that $6m/yr goalie starts looking like a $2m/yr goalie, especially with Oduya UFA next summer.

Chicago was built on their defensive backbone, and that is what will be sacrificed for these contracts.

8 @ 10.5? Yeeesh.

I only say that because Johansen's agent is using the name Toews a lot in discussions. Johnny T earned it. Kaner too.

It'll be a back breaker in a few years, but now...

I imagine Hossa is all but gone now. Weren't the Hawks close to the cap already?

I think right now they'll move a guy like Johnny Oduya and possibly someone else - they might keep Marian Hossa for next season and then move him after that

You're right, I was looking at the salary amount, not the cap amount. $6M difference between the two without factoring in however the breakdown on Toews & Kane ends up.

I'll say this right now: If Stan reconstructs the entire Hawks lineup (which he basically has to save for 5 or 6 spots now) and they still get to the conf. finals every year, he deserves the Executive of the Year award to be named after him.

We're still looking at a lot of money they'll have to move next year. More than Hossa. Saad is RFA next year too. I mean...BIG changes are coming, you have to think. Crawford at $6M, Bickell at $4M, Sharp just under $6M. Only three D signed next year with Seabrook at $5.8, Keith at $5.5M, Hjalmersson at $4.1M. Just a lot of big contracts.

I'm just glad we've had a couple of lockouts in the last 10 years and a hard salary cap that is keeping player's salaries under control...

Lets not kid ourselves, Keith makes Seabrook look much better than he actually is.

Seabrook's size and physical play is starting to take a toll on him, and it showed at times last season.

If the cap goes up to 75 million for 15-16, they will have $9,242,372 in cap space

RFA's:
Brandon Saad, Marcus Kruger, Nick Leddy, David Rundblad

UFA's:
Brad Richards, Peter Regin, Johnny Oduya and Michal Rozsival

I think it's safe to say that Johnny Oduya gets moved this offseason and Michal Rozsival walks after next season if he's still around

Adam Clendening will probably take one of those defensive spots going into next season so that's an option for replacements

Patrick Sharp gets moved because his contract is affordable for other teams and it's only two years left going into 15-16, so that would give them $15,142,372 in cap space, which should be manageable to get Brandon Saad his extension(if he develops, somewhere in the 4-5.5 million range), Marcus Kruger(2-2.5 million) and Nick Leddy(4 million), would give them 4-5 million in cap space going into 15-16 - just a rough estimate on my part on how much money those guys might get, but who knows anymore with the way contracts are

Something, something, Brooks Orpik, something, something.

There's a reason defensive Dmen don't make big money (except in Washington).

True, but losing two of your top 4 d-men will be tough to swallow.

So, in short, the Chicago Blackhawks of 2015-16 will resemble the Pittsburgh Penguins or 2013-14.

I'm okay with that.

You really think it's going up to $75M?
