Chargers have hired Ron Wolf as a consultant to help lead the GM and coach searches.

Sheesh. I wanted the 49ers to contact Ron Wolf as well when they needed a GM/coach. Beyond that, I even wondered if he'd be interested in coming back to a permanent role himself.

Anyone think we will see Roman as the HC of a team with Alex Smith as his QB next year?
Guess it depends on which team he would go to. If he went to the Chiefs, Cards, Raiders, Jags, Bills, or Eagles it would be feasible to see them go after a veteran QB like Alex. A team like the Chargers or Bears though are pretty set at QB.

Roman and smith to the cards i could see lol

It would have to be a good draft pick. Not thrilled to let Alex go to rival who has Fitz and his OC who was here when Alex had best years.

Arizona and Chicago have asked for and received permission to interview Broncos OC Mike McCoy for their HC job. Will interview this weekend.

Go Utes! He was a QB at the University of Utah before going to the pros (I think for a short time and then into coaching.)

Since I don't see us trading to a rival, especially under these above circumstances, I wonder if we'd trade him to someone else for even lower than we already think we could (less than Arizona would, if Roman went there and wanted him) - rather than asking for too much and teams just waiting for him to be cut before evaluating him. I still think he's cut, and teams should wait for that, but would we be less demanding? Obviously everyone has a price but I don't think the Cards will offer that price, but would we turn down a better deal for a worse one (in terms of picks) to avoid this? Not that Alex scares us, but knowing that we already had a hard time in our division, no sense in adding a reverse-spy to a HC who otherwise would need to start all over.

Lovie Smith got fired????????

That's dumb IMO. He's always gotten a lot out of a swiss-cheese roster. Someone's gonna get very lucky with a great defensive coordinator if another team doens't hire him as a HC.

No man, they have two COMPLETELY different philosophies. Theres no way for them to coincide. Harbaugh perfers more WCO principles with horizontal passing while Norv perfers the Zampese system with verticle passing. The offenses just don't match up.

Anyway why would you even want to try to force together two offenses that don't match up? That's like when your a kid and you have a round hole but you are so determined to get that square peg in there that you pull out the hammer and start pounding away

Any chance that Harbaugh chose the WCO because of his QBs - Luck and Smith - I don't know the reason for Luck, but Smith was a shorter passer but smart for YAC opportunities, getting small bits, efficient. Maybe with Kaep, Harbaugh would be willing to go to vertical philosophies? Just wondering, as I don't know that much about the different offenses when it comes to meshing with other styles.

The 49ers have granted the Jets, Jaguars and Chargers permission to interview director of player personnel Tom Gamble, per a source.

The Chargers is the new addition to this.

Heard tonight that Cleveland may be targeting Pittsburgh's Omar Khan as a candidate for general manager

Do teams always need permission to interview for GM positions? Or is it only during the playing year, including playoffs? I thought teams could refuse permission regardless of time for lateral moves, but not for HC positions - just that they could require it to be in the off-season. Same for GMs?

Isn't the Cleveland owner a Steelers fan? This could be a reason, plus football front office qualities, of course.
