I thought Rob Dibble for the Nats was good too.
I actually liked Dibble when he was on Fox. Guy has personality and seems to bring something to the discussion.

We have Bob Brenly & Steve Berthiaume. Brenly is one of the best around. Steve took a while to get used to. He came over from ESPN & brought that over-the-top hyperbole & sophomoric humor with him. He has toned that down over his time here. This is their third season as the broadcast duo.

Before that we had Darron Sutton, who is a giant douchebag, & the Mark Grace.

I think most Dback fans prefer our current duo to Sutton & Grace.
Yea, BB was one Giant who "got away". He is still loved by the Giants fans, and I think he still has a spot for the Giants in his heart as well.

Even if he does get upset by the opposing team trying to bunt for a hit late in a 1-0 game, just because his pitcher is throwing a no-no. Not his finest moment.

The Padres team is painful-bad.

Mark Grant actually is not that bad, but he about 35 years younger than the rest of the crew. Ted Leitner is SOOOO bad, I change the radio station the second I hear his voice.

Ted Leitner is just terrible. Agreed 100%. I turn him off as soon as I hear his awful voice. Hawk Harrelson the worst in the biz, though. Jerry Remy is almost that bad, as well.

The Celtics have had Mike Gorman doing play-by-play for like 30 years. He's as good as there is in my opinion.

As bad as I think uncle Teddy is, he is 1000X better than Hawk.

However, to be fair, I am only judging Hawk on a VERY small sample size. But every time I have heard him, he has been horrible (granted, much of that comes from radio personalities playing highlights of his horribleness).

Yes, Uncle Teddy is God-awful. Everyone on the SD radio broadcast is terrible. But Harrelson is in a world all-his-own. I hate announcers that just root for the team they are covering. Especially in the pros.

There will be natural rooting involved. These guys know the players and follow the team closer than even the most fanatical of fans.

But to be a pure homer does the listening consumer a dis-service.

The Giants team CLEARLY love the Giants, and they openly root for the Giants. But if the Giants stink, the crew will call them out on it. "Torture" was not initially intended to be a catch phrase. It was used in 2010 because the Giants were unable to put their opponents away and they had to go to a LOT of extra-inning games. "Torture" was actually a kind of critique of the playing style.

The closest Teddy will come to this is when he does not use the term "My Padres" when he is upset with their play.

Personally, I like Vin Scully. Granted, I don't get to hear many games that he calls.

Bob Carpenter and FP Santangelo, the Nats TV guys, are the biggest homers out there right now. I hate when the O's and gNats play and MASN combines the teams' TV guys for the series'. It's awful.

I always liked Dibble on The Best Damn Sports Show Period.
The first couple years of that show were great. And then it brought Sports broadcasting down to its current shit level. All too often imitated, never duplicated.

Back to the OP: Id listen to Vin Scully call every game for every team if I could. He could read me instructions to assemble particle board furniture and Id listen.

Hawk Harrelson is the worst. Followed by which ever Brennamen does Reds games. Followed by Ron Darling, Jack Morris and Bert Blyleven. I also hated Josh Lewin when he was teamed with Gibby for Tigers games.

I now like Mario Impemba and Rod Allen a lot for Tigers games. They grown on me over the years. First time Ive ever felt that way since Ernie Harwell and Paul Carey worked together on the radio 25 years ago. (No offense to Rick Rizz and Bob Rathbun, but replacing legends ain't easy.)

I'll admit, Im okay with Michael Kay. And like Gary Thorn but seldom get to see/hear him anymore.

Also love Jim Price on the radio now that he's grown into a loopy old man. Speaking of which, RIP Ron Santo, you were great on Cubbies broadcasts for years good sir.

Gary Thorn is very good, but he does not do much baseball, unfortunately, and I do not follow hockey, so I don't watch/listen to him at all there.

Of the national guys, Buck is obviously terrible, but I liked what I saw from Smoltz last year.

Im not sure how many Os games Thorn gets to do. Really wish ESPN had forked over more money to keep him.

I do like Smoltz and think he'll be very good eventually. I know Im in the minority on this, but Joe Buck doesn't annoy me. (On clear nights as a kid I could get Cards games in on AM, his dad was up there with Harwell for me.)

Buck isn't as bad as McCarver, but he is still painful.
