Mike Birbiglia has had some great stand-up too.
Try listening to Bill Cosby - 100 MPH from the late '70s. He's one of the best and Red Skelton is also one of the best (and always clean). Gallagher before getting stuck in his sledge-o-matic schtick. That got old and boring. Seemed like he quit trying to come up with original "comedy" and settled for trying to get the audience wet with whatever he could smash. Johnny Carson was pretty funny too.Bill Cosby - Himself, was hilarious. I think thats what it was called from the mid 80's I believe...
Funniest that come to my mind are the Smothers brothers, Rowan & Martin, and pick almost any 2 from the Carol Burnette Show. They'd start going off each other and scripts were out the window.how about Comedy duos?? Mel brooks and rob reiner?? the Sklar brothers??- I am a fan of both... clearly Brooks and reiner are the best duo team of all time, not sure if that is debateable...
I used to work security at a comedy club called Connextions in East Lansing and then another one called Chaplin's here closer to home. I can tell you first hand most comedians are total psychos and all of them do hard drugs. Every night two security guys were in charge of the comedians drug room. One to watch over the guy while he did his drugs in the back room and another to guard the door so no fans ever got back there.
One time I was Pauly Shores bodyguard for a 48 hour bus trip from MI to Ohio and watched him snag two mom's in MI, get them on the bus to Ohio, bang them both, then leave them at an IHOP in Ohio when they went to the bathroom to freshen up. Good times.
Jerry Seinfeld is in no way funny. I've never understood what people liked about his nasally voice and/or comedy. It's not highbrow or intellectual in anyway, but his fans seem to think differently. It's just not very funny, IMO.

Eddie Murphy's Delirious is a top 10 standup performance IMO.
I agree that was freakin hilarious but Eddie has now become what he used to make fun of.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned him or not, but Bill Burr is my favorite for newer comedians...
Eddie Murphy, Steve Martin, Ron White & Dave Chappelle are some of my favorite older comedians.
-------Apologies if this has been done before. Just talking to some buddies at work and this topic came up. So who are the best stand up comedians of all time?
