Joe Montana and his 2,800 average yards per season and his 18 TDs

Dumbest rationale ever. Yards per season? Seriously? Including strike-shortened seasons or seasons in which he didn't play the entire year?

And look at you taking total yards in a season as having any semblance of an indication of how well a guy is playing. That's the most dumb and superficial way to evaluate a QB. I guess Matt Stafford was the 2n best QB in the NFL last season wasn't he?

Also, looking at stats statically is dumb as well. Playing QB has gotten gradually easier over time with rule changes to benefit the QB.

so the 1981 49ers were chalk full of talent?

Hardly anyone knew who joe montana was in 1981, and Ronnie Lott was an unproven rookie. That was not some loaded team during his first super bowl run. Later the niners became a dominant force, but he did it during the building process as well as he did it once the Dynasty had been built.

Ya same here. I dont remember him cause my Dad was a diehard Pats fan. Steve Grogan was a freaking god.

Point is people are throwing players you probably have no recollection into the discussion. OP asked QB's who you have seen play. I think that would mean when you was beyond the age of 10 at least and had some sort of idea what the game was.

JMO

Exactly...plus the eras were so different...hard to really compare Starr & Unitas based on stats.

Peyton manning the regular season wonder!!!

I have no problem saying that the best regular season QB I have ever seen is Manning. But when the pressure is on.... its Montana by a landslide over him.

Peyton Manning:

Joe Montana:

Joe Montana has no idea what pressure is. His teams were STACKED. The 00s Colts would be a 6-10 team with Montana

Wasn't that 1982? I think in 81, he played part of the season in San Diego before he was traded.

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard... If Joe Montana was the colts QB, you would have multiple rings.

I already listed a roster of the 81 niners.... that was not a "stacked" team. And if someone is going to make the argument that Peyton never played with a "stacked team"...

All I can say is ....

If you want your argument to be credible, stop being an ass.

The 81' 49ers were 2nd it yards allowed, 2nd in points given up, and 1st in takeaways....yeah, Joe Montana carried that team!!! :wtf2:

Obviously, Terry Bradshaw was the greatest of them all. He has the jewelry.

Joe Montana is a legend, no doubt, but he played in an era where there was no salary cap and the league did not depend on the QB as much as they do now. Those 49ers were the Yankees of the 80s....every single year they seemed to pick up a few star players in free agency. I think 96 was the first year of the salary cap and they remained relevant with another all time great, Steve Young. Once he retired, the 49ers went back to irrelevancy.

and he played when you could kill a qb or a reciever and get an award for it. Manning has been assured protection since he started, has had rules changed to favor his recievers, and most of them got to play in side on carpet rather than in the elements.

He also played against vanilla defensive schemes that put 8 in the box every down except 3rd n long against LBs who couldn't break 5 seconds in the 40.

There, so we've established that they played in different era's. I watched him play, I think he'd be just as good today.

Really? The 49ers seem pretty relevant right now.

Either way, you can jack yourself off all you want to. Your name alone identifies you as a troll, your comments just back it up.

Being a ND fan, I grew up idolizing Joe Montana. However, that being said he's not the greatest. You can use hypothetical arguments like "I think he's be as good today", but that doesn't prove anything.

Hilarious since your entire argument seems to be that they played in different era's.

I never understood why somebody would be accused of being a troll just because of difference of opinions.

Its not just your difference of opinion. Anyone who names them self "UJelly" is a troll. Its one thing to make a troll post, or make a troll comment (I admit I have done it). Its another to be the epitome of a troll at all times.

and neither does you saying" he's not the greatest" prove a thing
