I feel Marino would get a ton more votes had he won a ring. I'm going with Montana here.

I voted for Marino but if I was picking honestly I would have gone Montana. I figure Montana is going to run away with this one anyway so no big deal but Marino deserves recognition for how he revolutionized the quarterback position. I mean he was the greatest show on turf before there was a greatest show. He put up numbers that it took a bunch of rule changes just to make it where today's passers could do what he was doing 30 years ago. He also never even came close to having the same kind of teams around him that guys like Montana had. As much credit as we like to give quarterbacks for success especially in the playoffs they really can only do so much.

Montana

Only because Russell Wilson was unjustifiably omitted.

Sonny you should have spoke up sooner, you could have got Wilson in the top 16.

Montana vote here...week in and week out the guy ran, scrambled, threw darts and had the soft touch when needed. Don't have the "Game winning last drive" stats, but I gotta believe he had more.

Marino...great pocket passer, bad set of wheels.

^ Guess Montana didn't need a lot of GWD because his team was usually never behind...interesting stats tho...thanks for posting them, maybe others will see something in them I didn't.

Not usually a grammer cop but the above always makes me laugh!

I voted Marino because I think he was a better passer of the football but i'd take Joe over any QB in history if I needed to win an important game.

Guess Montana didn't need a lot of GWD's because his team was rarely behind?

Don't let the stats get in your way.

LOL That's pretty much what I thought. At the same time, I can't fault anyone for thinking that Montana is GOAT, since it's subjective and Montana certainly belongs in the conversation. Personally, however, I agree with the point made by cdumler that Montana played on 49ers teams that were far better all around teams than Marino ever played on. Hard to net out the effects of that disparity.
