I'd go Bird over Russell for the Celtics.......:2cents:

and I'm not on Hammer's payroll:suds:

That's an interesting one. Eleven championships in thirteen years carries a lot of weight.

Is Marc Gasol better than his brother was for the Grizzlies?

With zero offensive game, and a small league with a team that was stacked.
Not saying he wasn't good, just that I think Bird was an all around better player.

Yeah, I never really saw Russell play. I'm sure you're right that Bird was a "more skilled" player. Probably McHale and Parrish were too.

I did find interesting Bob Cousy's recent remarks that he's never seen a big man since Russell who can rebound and defend like Hassan Whiteside.

He must not have watched the undersized Ben Wallace at work.

That's a good example. Whiteside certainly has some work to do before establishing himself as the rebounder and defender that Wallace was.

Russell was in a unique situation during his career. He had plenty of offensive weapons around him which gave him the ability to focus more on the defensive end. Russell is the NBA's greatest winner, but Larry the Legend is the best Celtic of all time.

Great as Pete was, hard to argue that he was greater than Nique, Russell, or Malone.
John Havlicek called Pete the greatest ball handler in NBA history.

This thread lost all credibility once Bill Russel was labelled as the best Celtic.

He aint fit to get the doughnuts for Larry Bird like a D-league rookie.

Russell wasnt even the best player on his own team of 7 hall of famers stacked together in a weak sauce 3rd tier league that no one cared about until it expanded.

For the 11th time, Russell is the most over-rated player in NBA history.

speaking of 11...
