I've always liked Blues Brothers (and I hate Illinois Nazis, too). I've never seen Back To The Future, E.T., or Raiders of the lost Ark, they're not my kind of thing, not a fan of Spielberg at all (though Minority Report wasn't too bad).

Outsiders, Dirty Dancing, Stand by me, Predator, Weird Science, Top Gun, Pretty in Pink, Blade Runner, Full Metal Jacket...

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one here who likes Top Gun.

...The only movie with "II" in its title that was ever good was The Godfather Part II
Why the hate for sequels? I get that most of them aren't from the 80's, but:

Star Trek 2
Evil Dead 2
Terminator 2

Superman 2
Toy Story 2
Spiderman 2
French Connection 2
X-men 2
Rocky 2
Back to the Future 2

History has definitely shown us that some movies have no business having a sequel. I think that's the point he was trying to make.

I'll give you Star Trek, Terminator, Spiderman, Rocky and Superman. I would probably argue that superhero movies are more serialized stories than sequels though.

Back to the Future 2 was ok. X-Men 2 was decent. Never saw French Connection 2 or Toy Story 2. Army of Darkness was my favorite Evil Dead movie and that was the 3rd.

Top Gun was awesome.

Sadly, they are planning to Shit on our fond memories by making a sequel/reboot.

I liked the Matrix reloaded too.

But, Aliens, Winter Soldier and T2 are the gold standard for sequels.

Next tier for me would be Godfather II, Dark Knight, Lord of the rings Return of the King and Madagascar Escape from Africa....

And no, I'm not kidding about Madagascar..lol

I doubt that. Tom Cruise is producing it.

Ps. Cool thread.

It's fun to see all the differing opinions...

I'm sure geography, race, age and many other things contribute heavily towards the movies that appeal to us.

Nice to see that despite that, we all have a lot in common when it comes to certain movies.

Yeah, we will see.

Before Tony Scott offed himself, he was planning to make the movie about drones with Tom as a bit character.

Now that the movie tile has been released, Maverick would almost certainly have to focus on Tom...

Unless a new character is taking over that call sign....

Remake?

Road Warrior was a sequel (that was actually better than MM), not a remake.
My bad....

I was thinking about Thunderdome and Fury Road which also isn't a remake.

Movies you missed that are far better than the schlock I listed.

Platoon - Stone's only good movie. Maybe The Doors as well
Golden Child
The Adventures of Buckeroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
Color of Money
Risky Business
Top Gun - Sensing some Tom Cruise hate on your list
Bachelor Party

The Doors was 1991, otherwise, spot on additions

If Tom Cruise doesn't reprise his role as Maverick I will be utterly disappointed.
