Fan base wise, doesn't Toronto-Montreal have to be huge?

Kinda like Michigan & Ohio State, however lately Toronto must improve (same with Michigan) to rekindle this once great rivalry. I still loved the Detroit & Colorado, Patrick Roy was fun to hate.

Ohio State might be coming down to Michigan's level with the Tressel/Pryor debacle.

It may not be the best, but the Islanders vs Penguins is going to be quite interesting next year. Gillies just resigned to a two way deal. Haley & Martin will be back as well. It could get very ugly.

More like old time hockey. The possibility of a bench clearing brawl alone makes all six games must see TV. Especially when we factor in the Isles were already fined 100 grand & Chuck paid it without batting an eye. Super Mario's comments were hilarious & caused quite a stir. It's going to be fun next year.

Did you see they are looking into a Michigan-OSU outdoor game in Cleveland? (CLEVELAND????) Should be interesting. Ohio State doesn't have the greatest program right now, but Mark Osieki is doing a pretty good job and is also very creepy looking.

Pens/Caps is not a fabricated rivalry. See Patrick Division. It was renewed with Crosby/OV, and the NHL has promoted it. But don't just say it was fabricated because that's what everybody says. The teams do not like each other.

Obv, the Pens will always have more hate for Philly.

I'd be surprised if that happened really. Automatic 10 games suspension for whoever leaves the bench will probably make them think twice.

Agreed. These teams have met a lot in the playoffs over the years (way before the recent revival) and had some tremendous series. My feeling has always been I dislike the Penguins as a team most and I dislike the Flyers' fans the most - no offense to the Flyers' fans on here (though I'm sure a few of you might like the compliment :) ).

Right now, it's more important to Washington than to us (since we've almost always had the upper hand in the playoffs). Kinda like how Philly/Pitt was more important to Pitt because they used to always oust us. Tables have turned now.

Agreed, gets completely overlooked when talking about great sports rivalries (The Bush Push pisses me off to this day). I love that in this day and age of college football where everyone is afraid to lose 1 game because it will ruin their National title shot, that 2 teams that don't need to play one another still do every year. Again, hate USC, but I respect them to no end.

Notre Dame hasn't had a real title shot in years though.

And for what it's worth, I would rank Michigan vs. Ohio State and Duke vs. UNC higher.

I have been to most of the big time rivalry games in college football and the south simply does it better.

When it comes to pure hate/emotion/intensity even the big time games up north like OSU-Michigan and USC-ND are minor league compared to Auburn-Alabama, Florida-Georgia, Alabama-Tennessee, Auburn-LSU....

I have been to just about all of them, and the ones down south are much bigger, at least currently (lest decade or so).

Army - Navy is still one of the most fun ones to go to though.

Also, college football rivalries trump all when it comes to gameday experience (100,000 people, once a year, every game matters)

The rivalries in soccer always seem to be the last mentioned, Celtic-Rangers, Barcelona-Real Madrid, Liverpool-Man United, among many others.
