Is this poll in a world where KRS was never born or something?

I also like "Paper Plates" by GZA

We know full well who's gonna get all of the votes anyway, the commercially successful artists that everyone has heard of. Although really there's more "known" rappers on the ballot than I realized at first. Not really looking to give shit, but that might say something about the true quality of the ballot.

Like I said I'm not really looking to give shit, but personally I feel like a thread like this probably works better without a ballot (or a formal vote). It's tough to put a ballot together without leaving good choices off, and you'd probably have a bunch of less serious/informed rap fans pissing and moaning if you left off people like Jay-Z, Dre or even Eazy-E. But personally they wouldn't make my ballot.

I can understand Jay-Z and Dre not making the ballot but Eazy-E? His other diss songs "Old School" and "It's On" could have made the ballot very easily. You should post some of the diss songs that you feel were overlooked.

Well music is always of the opinion, but I get what you're saying. Seeing as to how you're a Blue Gays fan, I would think you're a little partial to a guy like Drake, not KRS-One or the Wu-Tang Clan. :suds:

I love 10+ minute diss songs. RAID, 300 Bars and Runnin', and Exodus (though not as long, still fits the style) are dope as hell.

Haha well I grew up in Toronto so I also have the benefit of knowing exactly where Drake started. And his neighbourhood definitely ain't "the bottom", believe me. It's sort of sad because I think he's actually sort of got some skills, but he makes such crappy music.

Here's another overlooked track I thought of. Not one that gets a lot of mention (even among real heads) because it's not aimed at a popular target.

Ditto for Philly. I don't live there, but I've lived around it enough to know that Cass and Ar-Ab both came up in some tough conditions. So did Meek, but it's a shame most of his music sucks. Masta Ace is good. Sittin on Chrome is a classic.

Hell my family definitely wasn't poor but if we're just comparing hoods I grew up in a way worse neighbourhood than Drake did. Plus I never would have let that skinny loser shoot me on Degrassi hahaha.

One thing I really respected that Masta Ace did was the video to I.N.C. Ride. He released that right in the middle of all the manufactured East coast/West coast shit and it's basically a well respected old school NYC MC rolling around in a video with a decidedly West coast feel to it. I don't know if it was his intention or not but it had that "chill the fuck out, we're really not all that different" vibe as a result.

Never cared for that whiny little bitch. Plus whenever you're talking about a song by Eazy there's always the question of whether or not he even wrote the lyrics in the first place.

You sound east coast bias right now because Masta Ace isn't even the best rapper with his own style, Eminem > Masta Ace any day, and that's not even based on a "commercial" level.
