I've been fortunate in that I've not been too many bad ones. Aerosmith in the late 70s, when they were all stoned & rarely did sound checks was the most notable exception.

I guess that any of the last five times that I've seen Rush would rank as the best - But then they're my favorite band, so go figure. ;)

One of the most interesting one was Edgefest 1997 in Dallas. Every year a local radio station has a music festival, one day, at what was the Coca Cola Starplex. In 1997 I went with a group of friends, and it was a blast. I was a senior in HS and the lineup included (no chastising me, I was 17): Moby, INXS (one of their last shows, maybe THE last), CAKE, matchbox 20, Cowboy Mouth (the group I was actually there to see), Ben Folds Five, K's choice, and one of the better bands (IMO) was on the side stage...Grand Street Cryers.

!977--Balboa Stadium in San Diego. Linda Ronstadt/the Eagles/Fleetwood Mac. The only drawback the group I was with thought it would be cool to sit down on the grass near the stage. Great idea except when you had to use the john and was cruising on a high. That old stadium didn't have that many rest rooms and by the time I found one & used it, I had all but completely forgotten where our seats were. Took me near a half hour to find my seat. Great concert though. I like performers that sound as good live as on record and all three passed the test.

Grateful Dead...Autzen Stadium the last time they were there...not sure of the year...temps in the high 90s... showers were installed for goers to cool off under...needless to say tats were bouncing everywhere.

In no order...

The Who
Paul McCartney
Jethro Tull

Have seen the Dead numerous times, and saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers the day after Jerry Garcia died....

Have seen a bunch of cool newer bands when they were unknowns in very intimate settings...Rage, Tool and Primus to name a few.

Sir Paul is definitely up there.

Led Zeplin and Pink Floyd had been the best concerts I'd seen for many years, until I got to see Bob Dylan perform with the band that he recorded Love and Theft with. I've seen Dylan four times, but only the show with that band was special. And it was awesome!

A couple of other memorable ones for me are Van Halen (with Sammy) at Rupp Arena in Lexington and Metallica at Starwood Ampitheater in Nashville. Also saw Metallica at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville but it was during their new-found eyeliner and crew cut phase and they played new shit and the acoustics were atrocious. Also saw ZZ Top and Skynyrd there one night and almost got into a fight with an old, drunk redneck who decided I was blocking his view. We were nose-to-nose til security descended on us.

His band is great. Seen Dylan 3 times myself, including just this last year.

He's had different bands each time I've seen him, including one show he did with Willy Nelson. His performance with his Love and Theft band members was by far better than his other shows that I've seen. Amazing how many musical transitions his gone through over such a long career.
