1) Tim Tebow
2) Vince Young
3) Tommie Frazier
4) Michael Vick
5) AJ McCarron
6) Doug Flutie
7) Marcus Mariota
8) Matt Leinhart
9) John Elway
10) Kellen Moore

AJ McCarron?

One of the most overrated QBs in the history of college football. Of course, that is just my opinion.

The rest of your list is way too current. We are talking about 50 years. FIFTY. You have AJ McCarron over Jim Plunkett. That is just sad. Matt Lienart belongs nowhere on this list.

In my lifetime, Tebow was clearly the most accomplished when you combine stats and wins. However, I don't think he is the best.

If you combine all the years, I'm not sure how you can go to anyone other than Mariota. The guy had 134 total QBs to 14 career interceptions. He did it without Percy Harvin or Ahman Green or whatever playmakers the other nominated players will have. He was insanely accurate, record-breakingly efficient, and had a great feel for when to run.

The best ceiling was Russell, of course. His 2011 was better than any single season. Sam Bradford, Chris Weinke, Vince Young, Cam Newton, RG3, and Drew Brees get special mention, as well.

:rolleyes2:

Colt Brennan was a fun guy to watch.

Cam Newton would've probably been #1 had he played more than a year.

Even for 1 year, Cam should be on anybodies list. That was a season for the ages.

I agree on Lienart. As college QBs go I would rather have Jake the Snake from ASU. Time frame is just too long. 60s and 70s were before my time. 80s was just when I started watching, but it is nearly I,possible to compare.

Makes you wonder 'what if' had he not been kicked off the team at Florida. Him and Urban Meyer at Florida would've been scary.

Likely, but to give out guys like Leinart and McCarron on a list for best over the last 50 years in simply fucking stupid.

I don't give a shit if they won a Heisman. Eric Crouch and Gino Torreta won a Heisman, and they'll never sniff this list.

Elway, Plunkett, and Jamelle Hollieway deserve much more respect.

I had Jamelle. Plunkett before my time. Lots of guys being forgotten. Major Harris of WV comes to mind. BYU QBs of the 80s. I am sure I am forgetting a bunch. List should be by decade, no more than 20 years. The game has just changed too much to compare.

The BYU QB's suggest that Jim McMahon was the best. The guy that got the most publicity was Robbie Bosco. :dhd:

Steve Young was great, but they never played anybody. You can't take his professional career into your account of what he was in college.

Flutie was awesome. People really need to see his film in college.

Tebow was special. So was Tommie Frazier. They along with Flutie would probably be my top 3.

2 that would deserve mention if you are doing a top 50

Shawn Moore and Matt Blundin in who was the only NCAA qb to throw over 200 passes without a pick in a single season.

but neither one needs to be top twenty.

Here is a list of quarterbacks who won two national championships. Pick the GOAT from that list. One season wonders aren't on the list.

Steve Davis -- Oklahoma
Jerry Tagge -- Nebraska
Tommie Frazier -- Nebraska
Matt Leinart -- Southern Cal
A.J. McCarron -- Alabama

Shawn Moore to Herman Moore was pretty solid. The Ga Tech vs. Virginia game in 1990 was must see TV. Great game.

You're joking about the Matt Leinart part right?

I thought it was pretty simple when the OP listed Championships as a criteria.

Bama wins those 2 NC's w/out McCarron, btw.

Even though he was before my time, James Street is one of the greatest QB's the last 50 yrs. went 20-0 as a starter, led Texas to the '69 NC and ran the wishbone to perfection. Was also a two time All American playing baseball for the Horns as well.

His kid isn't a bad pitcher either. I'd typically give this the homer alert, but Mr. Steet was solid.
