Some obvious ones:

Tim Burton shits on the classics:
*Alice in Wonderland
*Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
-I like a lot of Burton's stuff (particularly the early stuff) but I really want to slap him for the music and the Willie Wonka portrayl.

Dr. Seuss rolls over in his grave:
*The Cat in the Hat
*How the Grinch Stole Christmas
-The Cat in the Hat actually made Seuss' widow take legal action to ensure that no more live action movies be made from his stories!

Fuck J.R.R. Tolkien, we need tons of shitty cgi!
*The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
*The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
*The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
-On top of the horrible cgi barrel chase on the river, the decision to drag a 200 page novella into 3 two hour plus movies was just a horribly ill-fated and pathetic money grab.
I agree about the Hobbit. Blatant milking of Tolkein fans

His short stories (The Body, Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank redemption) seem to come across better on screen.
I mean, King writes like a madman and not all his books are going to be blockbuster movies.

OH I think they fucked up the Dark Tower series!

IT was solid, both times. Pet Cemetery was good...The Stand...

I didn't watch The Outsider or the Mr Mercedes serieses though....were they any good?

Stephen King's Dark Tower. Great books but the movie was a dome scratcher. If you watched it expecting to see anything remotely close to the books, you'd be horrible disappointed. If you'd never read the books, it wasn't a horrible movie.

King's Dr. Sleep was excellent! Followed the book very closely and was well done.

I never finished the Dark Tower series...it was too weird and I was too young.

The Green Mile is another good one of his

I thought both Outsider and Mr. Mercedes were good. Outsider was better overall.

I think when they try to cram one of his epics into a 2-3 hour window it's just not going to work out well-especially if you loved the original source material. So much nuance is lost, and you end up with a disjointed nonsensical mess. I know that's how I view Dark Tower-and why I guess I'm grateful that at least to this point, they've left The Talisman alone.

Yes, The Green Mile was excellent as was The Shining and the sequel Dr. Sleep. He had quite a few movie bombs though.

Starship Troopers was a mediocre book they made into a stupid movie.

Clive Cussler wrote great action novels, but the movies they made of some of them just didn't work.
Starship Troopers (the book) was a lot like Full Metal Jacket. The movie had a completely different tone and linking the two, imho, is hard to do.

And for the record, I liked both the book AND the movie. They were just two completely different entities.

I googled about eight lists and I realized that I avoided most of these movies. I actually didn't hate the Enders Game movie but its very forgettable so I can see why someone would list that. I have seen the movie Ready Player One and I think that should qualify for these types of lists and I don't see it on there.

The one movie that I haven't seen that you'd have to pay me to watch would be A Wrinkle in Time.

ready player knee issue is the actual book parts would make a terrible movie.

showing him replaying Pac-Man 100 times or acting our Matthew Broderick in war games isn’t all that compelling.

so I get that.

World War Z

the book was this cool, post zombie apocalypse where the world is trying to rebuild while rehashing what happened. I really enjoyed the book.

The movie, not so much.

I was disappointed in the Ready Player One movie

there are parts of it that will play awful as a movie and far better in a book

The DT series did drag, admittedly, but in the end, it was worth it. You need to have at least a few other King books under your belt, though, to get full enjoyment from the series. It basically pulls all his books (and the “real” world) into the same shared multiverse.

I didn’t like how the series dealt with Flagg, though. He was the main baddie in soooo many King books, and the DT books basically neutered him. Sooo disappointing.

I think most Michael Crighton books were made into decent movies.

Jurassic Park, Sphere, Andromeda Strain...

He has a hidden cameo in the current Stand series. I suspect most viewers missed it completely, though.

He was on the ad for the old-folks home where Mother Abigail lived
