I'm not for or against the onside kick there. Yes your d is playing well, but they may have seen something in their prep that suggested it would work. But the execution was definitely piss poor.
If anyone wants to blame this on coaching they're crazy. Dalton has been the biggest culprit and Hue has done a hell of a job coaching around the shortcomings of his QB and RT.
Dalton has done his share of damange, but you can't, as a coach, give up/give points with poor clock management and decisiobns.
Clock mis-management cost them at least a 3 point try at the end of the 1st half
Poor decision cost them 3 points there...that's 6 points, that has not been directly affected by the players on the field.
Damn...Bengals got lucky there on that pass.....
That's a bullshit call.
There's absolutely no guarantee they get points at the end of the half. They were still 10-15 yards away from even attempting a field goal. Should he have called a timeout? Maybe. Probably. But you can't just assume that Nugent is going to hit a 50 harder or that they even pick up enough to get him a shot.
That sneak onside didn't work. If it had nobody would be second guessing it. That's as much on Nugent as it is whomever decided to try it. You can't kick it that slowly and expect to have any hope of recovering it. You can disagree with the decision to try it, please don't even try to argue with the fact that poor executive is the reason it didn't work.
