Lewis is banking on the multi-million dollar renovation at Paul Brown Stadium to help with that. By the time the players show up for the April 20 start of the offseason, the new weight room that is 40 percent bigger than the old one is going to be on line, as is a 50-yard indoor turf field. They’ll give rise to a new routine and new schedule.

(The new cafeteria and players’ lounge are set to be ready for training camp.)

“We’ve been a little bit squeezed for time because of the limitations we’ve had in some areas. I’m anxious to get back now that everything is taking shape,” Lewis said. “The full-service dining room. All those things make it a better atmosphere for our players and it was always pretty good. Now we make it better, now we’re 24-7.

When did this occur? We built a 50 yard indoor turf field to accommodate practice during the winter? I had no idea we were doing this. Anyone know more about this?

I don't know about the Bengals new facility. But AZ built a new indoor training facility that was completed in the summer of 2013. It is no coincidence that the Cardinals are 21-11 since then. They use it during OTAs & during the season. No longer do guys how spend all those hours practicing in the heat like they used to around here. Right now, they are in the process of renovating the rest of the facility too. Cafeteria, weight room, locker rooms & more are getting redone.

I think most teams should have a similar facility. It can only help maximize their players potential.

Isn't that when Arians took over too though? Hard to tell what did it. Arians, his FA's and draft he has been gathering, or the indoor air conditioned facility.

I think it's a combination of things. Yes, Arians is the main factor in the success, but in order to recruit top FAs or bring in veterans on cheap 1 year deals, you have to have something to offer them. Having new facilities like what we have built & are building does that. Over the last 2 season, Keim & Arians have been able to recruit very well in free agency. Not having practice in near 100 degree temps in Aug, Sept, & Oct is one heck of a recruiting tool we didn't have before. So when older veteran guys that are looking for a place to make a last run at a SB, not having to deal with the heat makes AZ more appealing.

All we had before was money & rarely does that bring in the best veteran guys.

Had a tour this past December and got to see the work being done on the indoor weight and dinning facilities. They are impressive, to say the least. I didn't see anything about the indoor field/half field, but that is a bonus. The new dinning area is huge, and will be a definite selling point for F/A's as a place to come, relax, eat and hang out as they will also have a gym for guys to play basketball and other rec stuff to unwind.

It's not what you think.

It's a room the size of a junior high gym with a carpeted floor. Not exactly an indoor practice facility. I'm guessing they can use it for walk-throughs, but they'll still be up at UC when the weather turns.

Yeah, okay. That makes more sense. *rolls eyes at Hobson and Mike Brown*

I've been in this room. It's smaller than it even looks in the picture.

Are they going to line the outside with rocks?

I've actually been in the room as well and chokie is right -- It looks bigger in the picture. Look where that logo (half court) is relative to the 3 point line and remember that the 3 point line is not even 7 yards from the basket. Where do they get 50 yards?

This is embarrassing.

again, it's still longer than Andy Dalton's passes. it would be too small if we had Jeff Blake throwing rainbows to Scott or Carson Palmer hauling bombs to someone like Henry. but for Andy Dalton to under throw Green by 20 yards it will do just fine.

Laughing stock of the NFL. What could they possibly hope to use this for? You couldn't fit a middle school assembly in that gym, let alone an NFL practice. The Brown family truly has no shame.

I know it could get a little pricy, but it would definitely make Cincinnati a desirable place to come for FA, even the mid-level free agents we sign. They upgraded the other facilities, and if you could change that turf out next door to be that field turf, stick a bubble over it, regulate the hot/cold inside it, and build a little underground tunnel from the stadium to the bubble, you would be looking at an ideal setup. The tunnel would probably cost the most, but what a nice setup that would be. It isn't like they have to buy land near by and completely develop it first before laying turf.

Unless Brown is not settled on Cincinnati being the Bengals home any longer than past their current contract with the city, there is no reason not to make the investment in the team in my opinion.

they could literally rent their indoor practice facility out to one of the many, many, many sports organizations in town, some of whom train year round. For a CEO that is business savvy, he's really dropping the ball on a profitable thing.

I literally can't think of a single thing that would make me think or call Mike Brown business savvy. He's not made a significant capital investment in anything. In fact, he's done just the opposite with the (lack of) free agent signings, never having a GM, not investing in practice facilities, and putting the onus on the county to provide a stadium.

He inherited the team, putting in no effort. He has no idea how to delegate, manage, nor does he understand how to build a brand/franchise.

Anyone with a pulse could sit back and collect a yearly check from the NFL. It's a joke to call him a businessman or a 'CEO'

This! I hate it when people say he's a good businessman.... He's not. He could make much more money on his team if he actually tried. He's short-sighted, conservative, and naive in many regards. He just happens to be lucky enough to inherit a business that simply can't lose money.

Mike Brown is a clown. Nothing more than a politician living in eutopia off the backs of the taxpayers.
