This is true but dont you want a guy that will Positively influence the work ethic, positive habits, film study, and off field behavior of the young WRs?

eh, I don't think he has to be a mentor figure.. just a guy who knows how to play the game that can give the team some meaningful snaps
Saw this on twitter, can't remembe who put it up there, but....
The Bengals are like that guy that's looking for a hook-up at 1:45a.m. just before 2:00a.m. last call/closing time. None of the left overs are a wise choice, and no one who has picked up someone at this time of the night hasn't woken up in the morning and not regretted it.
This is where the Bengals are at with their situation with F/A WR's.
Unfortunately, the girl next door is underage.
But Simpson was an absolutely terrible player. Should be hard to replace him even with a rookie right?
Touche on the analogy.
But I disagree about the role of the veteran. I believe you absolutely bring in a veteran with the intention of starting them for the season. And if one of the young guys can get up to speed and replace 'em sometime this season, then even better.
If the goal is to build upon last season's playoff run, then you can't just throw a rookie to the wolves without expecting to take a step back for at least a portion of the season. If the goal is to try to compete 2-3 years down the road, then by all means start the rookie day 1.
