Same here. I never had a doubt in my mind that AJ would be resigned here. The Bengals were not going to let one of their franchise players walk to another team.

He gets 32 million of that contract in the next 6 months too. So the Bengals anted up some coin for that bonus too.
Yep. Off-set the guaranteed amount by giving him a large up front bonus that can be spread out. It's a win-win.

Eh. The cap is set to go up a pretty good amount from what I've heard. By the time it's all said and done, I'm willing to be that the contract will be of little consequence to the cap or how this team can be built going forward.
As long as we are paying Dalton, Green, Atkins, Dunlap, Johnson, Burfict soon, Zeitler, Hill soon, Dre. There is a lot of money to be spent.

And a lot of cap money available to spend when you trim the fat (players on the other side of 30 making big contracts), and the cap raise.

Whitworth and Smith? We did just sign two rookie tackles in the 1st and 2nd round.

Leon Hall. You honestly think we will not cut him loose at 10 million after two Achilles tears?

Peko is a guess, but I think another year or so of him max as they transition their younger DT's to more play time. As long as Atkins is back to himself, Peko becomes less relevant.

I personally think they may cut Dalton after this year if he has another shitty game in the playoffs and we go one and done again. They structured his contract to be able to cut him if he continues to blow in the playoffs. They also structured it if he becomes a playoff winning QB or SB winning QB that he could make a fortune as well. It is up to Dalton. Very performance based contract, otherwise, it is not that expensive.

I can see them letting Reggie Nelson go and locking Iloka up long term and taking a chance on one of the younger safeties after this year.

There are several guys we could let go and while may not make us stronger by doing some, it will make us cheaper and with the raise in cap, I don't see it as much of an issue.

We'd sooner let Dre, Zeitler, Hill, and Iloka walk in FA than cut Peko, Maualuga, Hall, Whitworth, etc. Just the way it is around here.

No we wouldn't as we have no one to replace them. They may be more hesitant on Maualuga until Dawson can prove that he is the player they are hoping he can be.

Dre may be a bargain after his first couple years in the league as a bench warmer. I guess it all depends on how crappy or good he does this year.

Denard sitting the bench these first couple years may make him more affordable on a longer term contract as well when his 5th year is up. It all depends.

I like what management has done with our players. I trust them to keep doing the same thing. Which is why we can afford to keep our good players longer because we are front loading contracts and they get cheaper as time goes on. Plus, it doesn't hurt us towards the end of the contract. A lot of crappy team jizz all over themselves for a FA and in order to land said FA back load a ridiculous sized contract so they do not have to live up to the contract which affects their cap availability later on.

To put it in perspective, Green's contract for these next four years, 2015-2018, is exactly the same every season as the combination of the recently signed contracts of Clint Boling and Geno Atkins.

Dalton's contract is not an issue.

He's currently the 18th paid QB in the NFL. When you consider that other QB's are going to be in line for paydays over the span of his contract, he's going to end up in the mid-20's by the time his contract runs out, or even lower.

His base salary is 10.5M, 13M, 13M, 16M, and then 17M from 2016-2020. By the time he's reaches that 16M, the cap will have jumped so much it won't even budge the needle on the scale.

Also, as guys are set to earn more money, other higher priced guys will move on or retire. Guys like Andre Smith, Whitworth, Nelson, Hall, Jones. These guys' salary will off-set the raises other guys will get, and they will draft replacements.
