You think he was the difference between the Nets getting swept and winning the series? I doubt it.

I think there may be a difference between being swept and winning a game or two. The reason I say this is because when teams are building, they talk about how they got to a divisional title or they got to the second round or the third round. I sometimes think that every season in the playoffs, you are starting over. I don’t see it as a steppingstone to the next season if they get to the conference finals. But some people do. So if you don’t get swept, maybe you feel that you’re making progress even if you don’t win the series? Of course, with the Durant and the Nets, I think expectations were higher than 4-2 exit. Another team, maybe that’s “fight?”

That was about as close a series as a sweep can be. Quite a few really close games.

That series likely goes at least 6 with a healthy simmons.

Yep especially when you consider Ben would have been the best defender on the team to guard JT

yeah, I don't love them letting Brown go anyway, even with Ben back.

But gotta think they think he's gonna be healthy if they let Brown walk for so little money.

What a fucking loser

Monday night, he played just 12:41, and went 1-for-2 from the floor, plus three rebounds, two assists. Miles away from the numbers he put up just two seasons earlier with the Sixers. Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn gave the verbal equivalent of throwing up his hands when asked about Simmons’ current role.

“It’s going to be some work that we have to do. Because, you just take a look at what the lineups could potentially look like. You put another big next to Ben, then you got to figure out what the spacing is around him. Then, if you put another playmaker next to him, then you got to figure out what Ben looks like without the basketball. Then, if you go small with Ben, then you have to figure out can you rebound enough with him?”

That is not a vote of confidence. He’s basically saying he has no idea how to put his highest-paid player – he has two years and million remaining on his current deal – in a position to provide value on the floor.

The team added four players in the Durant and Irving trades: Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith from Dallas, Cam Johnson and Mikal Bridges from Phoenix. All four started Monday night. Simmons was the fifth player off the Nets’ bench. In the three Nets games since the trade deadline, he is averaging a bit more than 16 minutes a game

Dude could be a superstar but he has the complete opposite work ethic that guys like MJ and Kobe had.

He will be making over $75m over the next two years. He's getting paid, he doesn't give a fuck.

At this rate, he won't get a dime more than the MLE after that. IF he still decides he wants to play.

He's unplayable down the stretch if he's going to keep shooting sub 50 free throws. So yea...he's MLE and as you say if he stacks his money he may just retire. It's clear he doesn't love the game.

In this league you either have to be a big that can dominate the paint - ala Jokic, Embiid, Giannis, etc

Or be able to shoot. 0% from three and 44% from the FT line won't cut it.

Agree on the work ethic.

But I also can’t wait for the 30-30 to come out on him in a few years.

Being lazy doesn’t fully explain what has happened to Ben Simmons the player. He is talented enough to get out of bed and post 15/7/7.

There is more to the story.

He also Apparently doesn’t take criticism well

He’s never expanded his game

Maybe he just lacks the talent/touch to really become an outside threat…idk

But a pg who is one of the best passers/creators in the league, and guard switch and guard 1-4 (and even some 5s) can be a valuable piece

But he needs to be surrounded by shooting

They really needed to use the sixers picks to lander turner last summer

Outside shooting is a skill that can be taught with practice.

Nobody is expecting him to be Steph!

But, if high schoolers can do it, why can't he?

There are plenty of nba players his height and taller who can’t shoot…

I’m curious if it’s similar to why there aren’t many mlb pitchers his size either

A lot goes into to being a good shooter.

Practice, as you point out, is absolutely essential. And it is fair to question how hard Simmons has worked on his game.

But, there is a lot more to it. Or else everybody who worked hard would shoot like Steph. And there are players like Giannis who do work hard and still can’t shoot very well.

Some people have better fine motor control and acquire skills more quickly and at a higher level.

Also, as @trojanfan12 has pointed out, Simmons shoots with his left hand despite being right handed. That probably plays a part too.

And then finally, there is confidence, which Simmons clearly seems to struggle with.
