The thing with Simmons and his mental health issues is that no one truly knows if they are real or not. Anyone speaking in absolutes one way or the other is just embarrassing themselves. The only ones who know for sure are Ben and his therapist.

Personally, I think he's faking...the timing is just too convenient. But, I also know that a bad relationship can cause mental health issues that can resolve quickly when the relationship ends.

Anyone convinced he's faking is ignoring what a bad relationship can do to someone and anyone convinced it's real is ignoring the timing and amount of money involved.
This.

I don't get the outrage with Simmons joining the team.

The mental health hawt takes are just noise.

She quit when she couldnt win gold and then tried to hide behind mental health

Or Osaka who was healthy enough to play but not to answer softball questions from the press…

Well ok, I guess. If you think they are bigger quitters than Ben Simmons, that's your choice. Seems like a weird take to me but to each their own.

Yeah, I'm certainly not outraged in the least. Eskin loves to be outraged so not surprised by his take.

I’ll say this, in my opinion if there were any chance that he had an inkling of a real mental health problem you would not see people like Shaq speaking out like they have.

Simmons was upset that Doc didn't come to see him despite ignoring repeated texts and calls by Doc to him.

Some people see that as a sign of mental illness. I see that as a sign of someone with the maturity of a teenage girl.

I don't doubt that he's had some mental anguish. But that is not the same thing as mental illness.

Fair point.

Also, if it were really true, wouldn't Klutch have set up appointments with the best mental health experts anywhere in the country?

Was there even a single name of a doctor that he was seeing?
Was he taking any prescription medication?

That might be privileged information, but seems like a lost opportunity for Klutch to make the Sixers look bad, which leads me to believe that the 'mental health' issues were an excuse to keep him away from the team and also to possibly recoup some of the money lost in fines/games missed.

The fact that he didn't claim mental health issues until after the Sixers suspended him for failure to comply with practices and being sent home, is not exactly the best look.

Although, truth be told, he never claimed anything. Because he hasn't spoken publicly in 8 months.

Yeah who really knows but If I am being honest...I could care less about the guy. If he was faking karma will catch up to him and if he isn't then hopefully he got the help needed. I know KLove had some mental health issues but they were very real and he seems better know after getting the help he needed, it's no joke so if someone were to use that excuse it's very pathetic.

Somewhat similar to Fultz.
I hope he does well on his new team.

I mean, not too well.......

It’s more about consistency

The most likely result is they are all full of shit

But Simmons is the only one who had a toxic work environment at the time of discussing it

KLove Osaka Biles etc…none of them had a huge financial motivation to claim a mental health issue. That’s the reality of Simmons claim. You can’t separate the timing and the convenience from the claim. It is what it is.

Really?

Biles probably saved herself millions in endorsements by quitting rather than failing on merit

There’s nothing toxic at all about the Simmons/Sixers situation. The only variable that matters is the financial incentive of Simmons. That doesn’t allow for the consistency you desire.

That’s speculative and based on a projection of value.

Simon Biles didn't magically say everything went away. She struggled through her process.

Calvin Ridley took half the season off because of his own mental health issues. No reason to think he was lying because there were no incentive for him to lie.

Ben Simmons first said that he would never play for the Sixers again. And then, after the Sixers told him they wouldn't pay him anymore, he claimed mental health issues. Then his agent said his mental health issues related specifically to playing for the Sixers, which isn't how mental health issues really work, and that he would be perfectly fine once he was moved to a new team.

If you find that all makes perfect sense, that's fine. But it's also fine for others to find that highly suspicious.

And her value goes down if she’s a loser and not a martyr for her fake issues
Says you. Olympic athletes don’t have a ton of sponsorship dollars especially among females to begin with. Her value lies in being an Olympic champion which doesn’t go away.

One more time. Simon Biles is the most decorated gymnast ever. Are you seriously suggesting that had she failed in her final olympics that would have ruined her endorsements?

You realize that she wound up competing in several events and not winning gold. I still see her on commercials.

Shaq took it back. Spoke with Ben privately
