He didn’t say anything about not wanting to play for Philly until much later. Over the summer. By then it could have been an issue.

My theory is this. He might be making it up. But there is a plausible explanation for all his behavior.

The unwillingness to shoot in NBA games when we have seen clips of him making shots during pick up games seems like it could be a sign of anxiety disorder.

If that is the case, it was at its worst during the 2021 playoffs. And when Ben was at his all time low, first Embiid, then Doc, then all the Philly fans shitted on him.

That could lead to depression. Which would explain why he refused to see or speak to teammates, and why he said he would never play in Philly again.

I don’t know that is what happened, but it is a plausible timeline IF his mental health claims are legit.

And it is plainly obvious that the Philly situation was toxic for Simmons.

I know multiple people who have done the same over stressful work environments.

Take it with a grain of salt but there’s a report out there that says Simmons was looking at houses in Houston when the Nets and Sixers were going for him last year and he was disappointed he didn’t get dealt. And then you have Embiid’s comments last night about it being more important to him to be the number 1 on another team. Is it evidence that he’s faking? No but adding it to existing context it leans in the direction of this is a convenient lie to keep money while forcing his way out.

I would never make fun of anyone suffering from depression. But I don't recall this being an issue for Ben until after he said he wanted outta Philly. It makes me wonder how legit his claims are.
