And the other side of that will be his camp taking the stance of “you’re a monster for questioning a person’s mental health”

Seriously though.

What has Simmons done during his 6er tenure to make anyone think he is mentally fit?

Is he an unlikeable douche?

Yes.

That doesn’t mean he can’t have some mental issues. You all are too much.

to use "mental issues" as a means to avoid being fined, that's some BS from BS

I like how Shaq called Simmons out and he nailed it...so much that Simmons DM'd Shaq to cry about it.

Simmons has a long ways to go if he wants to get respect in the NBA again.

No not really. I understand where you’re coming from. I just disagree. There’s millions of dollars at stake in lying. If there was evidence of a prior relationship with a mental health professional his camp leaks that story. Just because someone is arrogant and at the same time lacks confidence in aspects of his game doesn’t mean he has a mental health condition . He has likely crossed a line and the only reason he can get away with this is people buying his angle of plausible deniability. It doesn’t change the truth. Ben Simmons is likely lying and he likely crossed a line that a decent person should never cross.

@fightinfunbags I didn't realize Maxey converts 40% of his treys. He may just need to average a few more per game to help replace Curry's production.

Not saying they couldn't use another outside shooter if they can find one in the buyout market but Maxey is no slouch when it comes to outside shooting.

And Harris is going to see more open 3's.....he's making 35% and could bump that up to 37-38%.

He has really worked on that aspect of his game. If you watch him though it’s not his catch and shoot three that has grown. It’s the pull up 3 when teams go under screens and it’s been some side step stuff. But I love the kid and his work ethic

One aspect of the Harden trade not being talked about is the chance for 21 year old Maxey to grow watching Harden and asking questions. I think Maxey’s upside has a lot of correlation with Harden’s game. Maxey has the potential to be an elite scorer.

Impossible to say though.

And my point all along is that the people talking like they “know” don’t know anything at all.

Of course it looks bad.

But he also went through a ton of adversity since his playoff struggles that would at the very least cause a ton of stress and anxiety for ANYBODY.

Not a huge leap to think it is possible he has some real stuff going on.

Cmon man.

He plays nothing like Curry.

Yes, he can shoot.

Curry is a guy you run off screens for catch and shoot opportunities. That is not Maxey’s game.

Maybe he can pick up Harden’s conditioning and strip club habits too!

It’s really not impossible to say when it’s likely that he made this up.
- zero prior evidence of a condition
- a loop hole exists for him to sit out and sti have access to millions of dollars
- he says he has a condition that can’t be evaluated with an x ray or any other empirical data that just so happens to help him take advantage of said loophole.

I’m not sure where “impossible” gets established. If you mean proving he’s lying ok. I already mentioned this with the plausible deniability. It doesn’t change the fact that he’s likely lying. Additionally, we’re talking about the court of public opinion and in that realm evidence doesn’t have to be air tight like it or not.

It seems like he has two good big brothers already in Harris and Embiid. Kid has been a model citizen and a sponge from what I’ve read soaking up knowledge and asking questions.

Maybe Toby has grown but when the Sixers fucked around with the failed Horford Embid pairing Toby was asked to do more catch and shoot stuff and he didn’t look good in that half court role. Watching him this year though he seems to have a greater willingness to take that shot. If he can adapt to take 4-5 a game and knock down a couple it will really help them.

With Embiid and Harden the Sixers will likely win the battle within the battle and outscore teams at the line and in the paint. In that dynamic they just need to be competitive in the 3 point comparison and not lose that metric by 21-24+ points. They need to keep that matchup with a disparity under 10. I think that’s a realistic goal with what they have now.

The aspect of his game that is most surprising to me is his ability to limit turnovers at 21 years old. He had just one last night. Usually the give and take of playing a young guard asked to handle the ball as much as he has been asked to do is turnovers but (knock on wood) not only has it not been a problem but taking care of the ball is already an elite aspect of his game. This kid has never been asked to play PG at any level before this season either. Sixers have a great young player in Maxey.

Public opinion doesn’t matter though.

Simmons is easy to dislike for sure. Going to take a lot for him to regain the respect of his peers.

You want to say he is “likely lying”. Ok. It is the people saying he is definitely lying that I take issue with.

Fair enough. I think the line you’re drawing is just semantics and not an important factor. I think what’s important is that this looks incredibly shady and we are talking about a very real disease we have gotten better as a society in paying attention to and a guy like this comes along and he selfishly threatens those gains by seemingly mocking it in self interest. That’s why people are pushing back on this. And I’ll agree with you on the fact that it doesn’t help that he is an unpopular figure to begin with when he goes down that road and that also impacts the way the public digests this.
