Just to be clear, I'm not predicting the Sixers will or won't be great. I just hate when people make definitive claims about how a trade will turn out, hours after the trade happens.

It's possible that the Embiid/Harden pairing will be like Astaire/Rogers and they will be dancing around everyone. It's possible that they are constantly hurt and never find a rhythm and are an early round exit. Who the heck knows?

What I do know is that had Embiid and Harris not got Covid they would likely be leading the Eastern Conference by a few games and they just got significantly better this year.

The Nets are going to be formidable and Simmons could be a key piece to turning them into a juggernaut. Or Simmons may never mesh well with KD and Kyrie and KD never really recovers from his injury.

I remember when the Knicks traded Ziggy to the Mavs and they got roasted all over the place.
Well it is literally a sports chat board. Is there a more fitting thing to talk about than the biggest trade in years?

Of course people are gonna give their takes, and many will be way off but so what?

In a hypothetical series between the Nets and Sixers what Drummond could do is be physical with Embiid and just wear him down some. So late in games/later in the series, Embiid maybe isn't quite as fresh. Basically it would be the difference between Embiid going up against some resistance vs. no resistance.

Obviously, Embiid is a far better player, but Drummond at least can make him work some to get his points.
Anything is better than Blake Griffin as your big... and Drummond is better than just anything.

It's a key upgrade for the Nets, relative to what they had before.

I am just a little tired of people crowning the Nets when they ain't done shit either. They are paper tigers with questionable chemistry and that was not all Harden.

It's not really about crowning them, there are question marks with them too. For one, they have to get everyone on the same page and they don't know when they will get KD back. We also don't know how long it will take Simmons to get into game shape and mesh with his new team.

But, when both teams are full and healthy, the Nets look to be the better team by a decent margin.

I’d be willing to bet Giannis sleeps just as good as he did before today. Competitors are just that way.

You think Simmons is losing sleep now?

All true, I mean the Nets had nothing at the position so this represents a big upgrade for them. But as someone who has seen a fair number of Embiid-Drummond matchups over the recent years, it's usually a total slaughter. Embiid has embarrassed Drummond and talked shit, so much that I and many other Sixers fans were shocked when they signed him. But Drummond and Doc Rivers were apparently on good terms and liked each other.

Sure.

But during those matchups Drummond was the best player on his team.

Now he is a 5th starter.

Embiid has to dominate that matchup. It is Philly best player vs. Brooklyn’s worst starter.

By the way Trojan, this part of your take on Simmons is not true.

The Sixers just handed over an elite level defender who also happens to have elite ballhandling and passing skills and is a very good finisher at the rim in Simmons.

He's a crazy athlete in terms of size, speed and agility--except when it comes to shooting in all areas, including his touch around the rim. He is not a good finisher at all.

That isn’t true.

His percentage at the rim is in the top quartile of the league.

I would stop short of calling him an elite finisher, but he is a good finisher.

Simmons is so big and strong and fast... he can both create and finish easier opportunities.

But too often when Simmons faced greater resistance... he would get awkward with his finishes. From an "eyeball test" point-of-view... it is noticeable and weird.

Jayson Tatum has a similar type problem.

But when he’s surrounded by mills curry and Durant that can create a lot of open money 3s
