LOL Belichick say what he really thinks.
Best coach evah.
This is all a ploy to get himself uninvited for next year.
Patriots coach Bill Belichick has long been a proponent of putting cameras on the sidelines and goal lines to give officials better replay angles. In fact, New England has proposed the rule change the last two years.
Earlier this week at the NFL owner's meetings, Giants co-owner John Mara, presumably with a straight face, said that adding cameras to 31 stadiums was too expensive. (Related: the league brought in revenues of more than $9 billion in 2013, according to Forbes.com.)
When asked by reporters Tuesday about Mara's comments, Belichick said, “It's disappointing every year we can't afford that, as a league.”
But according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, behind closed doors, Belichick went on a profane diatribe about the "Yeah, that ain't in the budget" excuse from the league.
“They were in a meeting the other day with Dean Blandino, the head of the officials, and Bill Belichick got up there, and in profane language, told the NFL: ‘We spend money to send the Pro Bowl to Brazil, we spend money to go overseas to London, but we can't spend money to have four cameras in the end zone, four cameras to help determine the correct call in the end zone on certain plays?'" Schefter said on Olbermann, via PFT.
"He went off, and the way it was explained to me, from people in the room at the time, they were laughing at it because his language was so profane and because he was so incensed about it, and the NFL didn't know how to handle it. But the bottom line is, they did not introduce the four cameras in the end zone, they thought right now it's too cost-prohibitive for the NFL even, and they don't know how to do it. They'll probably continue to look at this, but Bill Belichick left these owners' meetings not particularly happy."
UPDATE: Shortly after Schefter's report, PFT's Mike Florio wrote, "Three different sources who were in the room at the time say Belichick did not engage in a profane tirade."
More from Florio: "One source said there may have been a single F-bomb uttered by Belichick while sharing his views on the league's reluctance to invest the money necessary to install fixed cameras along the sidelines and goal lines, but the source added, 'I've heard much worse in that room during discussions.'"
However Belichick delivered the message, the bottom line is he's right. There's no explanation short of "Honestly, Brazil sounds like a hell of a lot more fun" that justifies the league's stance. A league, by the way, where the commissioner made $35 million in 2013, and has earned approximately $157 million from 2006 to 2013.
