I think Mickey's Big Mouths were returnable. Blatz bottles, too.

Nasty shit. I can still smell the resulting farts from this and Heileman Special Export.

What? You watch too many movies.

Coors was never illegal on the East Coast. The Coors Brewing Company was adamant that their "Banquet" beer stay cold from brew process to store since it had no preservatives and was not pasteurized. The cost of cold shipping across the country was prohibitive so Coors did not have a national distribution chain until the 80's.

There is some interesting info available that explains how the slow growth of states that the beer was available in was part of their marketing strategy. It made the beer seem exclusive to those in a state without distribution and helped get the eventual kick off rolling.

Copra wasn’t liscened to distribute past the Mississippi. Only until 1986 was it allowed to distribute.
I wasn’t referring to the smoky and the bandit movie, I just remember it not being allowed on the east coast.

I remember the refrigeration story, too.

Massachusetts still requires distributors to bring beer to local stores. The big breweries aren't allowed to do that themselves. They have mandatory middle men, raising the cost with no value to the consumer. Craft beers are exempt.

I got to go to the Oktoberfest in Germany not the big one but they had a huge party there in Epe where we were.

They brought out this huge calf leg for dinner and had all kinds of beer.

The local all dressed in this hans and grettle looking out fits and danced some crazy shit.
Me and my colleague were the only Americans there.
Beer was good but the Germans are some weird fucks when drunk.

It was Coors' decision, thus not illegal.
