Call me a cynic, but it wouldn't surprise me for any player to be juicing - there isn't one player out there of today that I would be that hurt over. Now if it came out that Steve Garvey or Ron Cey from the former Dodgers was juicing - then I would be really disappointed
Griffey had the sweetest swing your will every witness. The talent was there.
Probably McGwire and Sosa. That 98 home run chase was just so much fun, I think I'd cry if they were ever suspected of enhancing their performance with drugs.
The talent was there for Bonds, Clemens, McGwire and A-Rod.
I never understood McGwire. The guy set the rookie record with 49hrs as a skinny kid. I figure he started getting hurt and somebody turned him onto PED's to get healthier, and he liked the way he felt and kept using.
I think Bonds was a greedy SOB and an egomaniac and just wanted to be better. Same with A-Rod.
Clemens hurt me. Heck, my screen name is still rokketmn. I think he was hurt by the Dan Duquette "twighlight of his career" comment and started using to get good again. It sure worked.
Hank Aaron did take PEDs. He's admitted it.Off the top of my head if guys like
Ken Griffey Jr.
Greg Maddux
Mariano Rivera
Derek Jeter
Hank Aaron
Jackie Robinson
were ever to be revealed to had taken PEDs...I think it would be a crushing blow to MLB
...the revelation of Bonds, Arod, Clemens...eh it's a big story but those guys were never truly "beloved" by baseball.
Personally...I would be most devastated if Griffey ever got accused.
Who do you guys think would have the biggest effect on baseball if they were ever accused of taking PEDs? And who would affect you most personally?
You mean the way he didn't take his career seriously, was notoriously out of shape, and cost himself a place among the giants of the game due to the injuries his habits helped cause?Same here, he was my favorite player growing up by far. I always felt he did it the right way.
There are stories like that about Ruth, but I believe the guy you're specifically referring to is Pud Galvin.Didn't Babe Ruth drink monkey testicle milkshakes for the testosterone? I'm not kidding either, some of the old-timers did some crazy shit. It was either Ruth or a HOF pitcher from way back when.
Anyway, Keith Hernandez will always be my favorite player. Unfortunately, nothing he did would surprise me.
You clearly have no knowledge of Griffey's offseason workout rituals, or you wouldn't suspect him at all.Greg Maddux was a location pitcher. Roids? No way. I don't even see how HGH would be worth the risk for him. Only player on that list that I remotely suspect is Junior. I think taking a look at his injuries would be a good indication of his guilt or innocence. He doesn't strike me at all as a career juicer like Pujols or A-Rod.
I hate steroids in baseball but have a hard time believing that HGH is bad for the sport. All other technology related to the game has been enhanced but players aren't allowed to take a legal miracle drug with no side effects?
Makes no sense.
PEDs primary benefit to pitchers is recovery in between starts. Wouldn't that serve any pitcher, including Maddux, who had absurd durability and pitched a shit ton of innings?
Chipper Jones
And, I agree about Maddux not using PEDs. There would be absolutely no reason for him. It'd be all risk, no reward.
Not really.Rickey Henderson...he sure looked like he bulked up at towards the end of his career.
