You know what the best part about this might be? That no one in the media saw this coming at all, the great "insiders" and "gatekeepers" that they are.

Dreger lost his best insider (cousin Dave) so he's essentially guessing now (lol)

Probably means that Babcock made up his mind very, very quickly. by all accounts, BUF was in the running til the last minute. DET and SJS were in it up until 24 hours out as well.

Maybe TOR put a big number on the table, and Babs overplayed it a wee bit. Maybe he asked the Wings and Sharks if they would match, and they said "thanks but no thanks", and left BUF as his only option. Then the little woman factor kicked in, and voila, he is King of Toronto (for a day).

And yet when I read the Sun today they had Toronto listed at 4% probability. If you knew all of those details had happened/needed to happen (let's assume your scenario is 100% accurate for the argument) would you have put the probability that low?

I mean I'm not wrong in saying that close to no one in the media thought yesterday that this had any chance of happening, no? And yet here we are. The conclusion is "most of them don't know what the fuck they're talking about most of the time"... I'm not sure that the actual reasons for that fact are all that important anyway.

I thought as long as Toronto gave him GM duties it was a done deal.

I've heard that too, but I am not sure if Gardiner fits what they need. They need a steady shut down guy who can be a pain in the ass to play against. Lots of experience is a plus. Gariner is more mobile. Assuming Murray can go next year, they need physicality more.

If they go after someone like that it means that they know Murray is never going to make it past his injury woes.

Apparently, all this "Jackets scouting XXXXXX" is just looking around for a place to dump Rychel. Seems the Kurt Overhardt factor is already coming into play and the kid has a total of 5 NHL games.

Can I interest you in a slightly used Chris Phillips, sir? Why yes, we do accept Rychels!!

I'm really surprised Babcock jumped ship from a good situation in Detroit for the Leafs job. Is Toronto that much better of a job, money aside, than Detroit? Toronto has a great coach in place now, but the players still have to perform on a nightly basis. I think Detroit will do well assuming they bring up Blashill( sorry if misspelled).
I just got in and have not read details, but what was the price for Babcock and his duties besides coaching?

"Slightly"?

If you have a time machine, I would gladly accept the 2006 model.

I see there are a lot of pissed off Sabres fans on Twitter.

Can I assume these are the same ones who were crowing when Josh Gorges refused to come to Toronto and went to Buffalo?

Phil Kessel at Leafs training camp in September: Hey Mike, pleased to meet you, I skated about 9 or 10 times this off-season, the rest of the time I was fishing and having a good time partying with friends. I can't wait to get started!

I mean we as fans will moan and groan when things don't go our way, it's what we do. However, I think Tim Murray needs to put a sock in it, he whined about losing the draft lottery and he's whining about Babcock signing in Toronto.

It's not that Toronto is a better situation right now but that he's been in one place for a decade now and it gets stale more often than not - the $ certainly helps but he might want more of a challenge - Detroit is stuck as a one and done team right now

I am pretty sure he said "My damn big c*ck".

That's why McLean is smirking.
