well for starters, no one EVER would think this. Hell Luck was gonna be a sure fire HOF'er and no one would expect this. SO , yes , no one, including mahomes, thought this. There was no consensus best qb..........your own bear fans have said trubs was the consensus best, som said its watson, others had mahomes, it was split

It's really kind of funny how the only arguments against Mahomes now are

No one knew, especially when the consensus best QB in that draft was considered to be Watson.

This honestly isn't wrong. I don't remember either player being ranked as top 30 players on most draft boards, and there were real questions about how Mahomes would fare playing in an NFL offense much of which due to his erratic decision making that he's turned into a strength.

Granted Trubisky was also far from a sure thing coming out, but Mahomes could've backfired as much as he's worked out too. The big key here has been one has Andy Reid (and I'm sure having Alex Smith as a teammate didn't hurt) and the other doesn't.

Watson was definitely always ranked as such but just from the quick search I did Trubisky was either just in or just out of the top 30.

Either way, it's still true that many at the time had a hard time placing one clear about the other.
