I would disagree, Halak and Elliott at least are every bit as good as Varly, but considering a number of quality starters are available as UFA means that they didn't have to pay so much for him. With the speed the Avs have and in the system they play Elliott, Vokoun, Halak, Gus, Scrivens, and Greiss could all be very successful there.
Plus Anaheim has four NHL starter caliber goalies and a need to trade for some more speed.
Eh, I don't think Halak and Elliott are better than Varly - part of why those two are good is due to St. Louis' system - if they were really good, one of them would take the reigns - Varly's taken the reigns and he's had games where he's single handedly helped the Avs win - Halak and Elliott aren't terrible, but if they were really good, one of them would have taken the reigns by now and would be the bonafide number one starter for the Blues
