you saw today exactly what Russell is
a good qb outside the red zone throwing deep shots outside the numbers
terrible inside the red zone

Although, the main problem last year was defensively. Russell Wilson, was actually better than we all think last year. He was a top 10 rated passer. He won 5 straight, including against KC and At Buffalo. Had a higher passer rating than Mahomo, Allen, Justin Love and Goff.

Just sayin
No.

I don't think the rating or the ranking tell the whole story. Especially when you consider the 5 game win streak last year was powered not by RW shouldering the team and carrying it but by an insanely stout defense that created a wild number of turnovers. The Broncos were paying Wilson to be an elite QB and he was far from that. They were paying him to be "the guy" and he wasn't. He wasn't horrible, but he wasn't special. His paycheck said he should have been special.

It happens. Not piling on him, I actually like the guy. But I am enjoying this version of our offense way more than last year's. The best part about it is last year we probably saw the ceiling with Wilson in a Sean Payton offense. I think there is so much more potential with Nix. That's part of why this is so exciting. This team looks like it finally has direction again.

Great weekend.

Hear me out.

Florida won
Chiefs lose
Broncos win
Troy Franklin and Marvin Mims both catch a td. (We are starting to use Mims better)
We had the refs screw another team against us (The Lil J catch was not a catch) and technically since it was he lucked out and recovered a ball he once AGAIN fumbled.
Lil J actually got his hands on a football that he didn't drop or fumble and scored a TD on. It is a Pre Christmas Miracle.

What a time to be alive.

Vance Joseph has this defense playing elite ball. This unit is ridiculous. I was among those who wanted this man gone after the 70 point debacle. Then he engineered a 5 game win streak that saw his unit create all those turnovers. Then it all came crashing in to close out the season. Just as the team had ignited our hopes of a miraculous in-season turnaround and playoff run, they petered out.

So this past off season I was very vocal about not knowing what to expect from the defense, but generally not having high expectations. This unit is just ridiculous though. I said earlier, with 1 exception the defense has played good enough for the Broncos to win every single week.

I have never been so glad to be wrong about a coach. I also hate to say it, but Vance Joseph is coaching himself into some HC Interview opportunities come week 18. I hope he stays with us one more season though.

Honestly, VJ deserves his own thread. What a great story he is, from HC failure to returning here years later to DC failure to complete turnaround and success for us. Kudos to Payton for sticking with him when everyone else gave up.

Fantastic game by Nix, by the defense and honestly the coaching staff as well. They are really honing in on what this offense does well and adding wrinkles to get the ball in the speedster Mims' hands. This Falcon's D was really shorthanded though, so a slight grain of salt there but man does Payton still own the NFC south!

I agree, but it was high level practice and a confidence builder for Nix. He threw is first 0/50 ball to Sutton - that's a nice step forward. Also - he has developed a rhythm in his drops from under center.

Wherever Penner's fetish for new sod comes from - I applaud him for it. I really think a good grounds crew could baby a field through a season - but hey - what's it for me to care?

100%, he is making strides every week and it is super encouraging.

I will say though while the result of that play was great that might have been Nix's worst play of the game. It was an RPO and he missed handing it off to the RB that had a little bit of a lane. So when he began to scramble on an RPO they are lucky a flag didn't come out. There were 2 OL 4 yards down the field when Nix threw that ball.
