I am heading down to Phoenix on Tuesday, October 16th, and will be at games through Monday the 22nd, flying home that night. If anyone on the board is in Phoenix this next week, let me know.

I will try and report what I see, and also update scores and performances throughout the schedule.

Tonight's game, so far, has Hinojosa going 1-3 with a K, and Winn going 1-1 with a walk and a run (we're in the 6th inning) Winn also threw out a runner trying to steal second on a strike 'em out throw 'em out DP to end the top of the 6th inning.

Watch for Whitley, Alonso and Trammel as well. Part of the next wave of prospects

Winn replaces Aramis Garcia. Good call, Garcia got his AFL in the big leagues.

Matt Winn is a potential MLer. Has power and is good defensively. That will get you places if you're a catcher.

It will be interesting to see what kind of season Winn has when he reaches AAA. However, he'll most likely be stuck at AA to begin 2019 and will be turning 27 next August.

The team hasn't been afraid to move him around in his career either. Could see him bouncing around a lot next year. I'd say he's probably the 4th catcher at this moment (Posey-Hundley*-Garcia-Winn)

*assuming Hundley returns, which I think he will.

Put this kid in the Pen, he could reach SF by 2020. Hope they don't mess around again and have another Joan Gregorio scenario. It's being proven that a 2-3 inning power reliever is more valuable than a back-end starting pitcher. This kid has the perfect stuff to be that type of guy, the Josh Hader type.

Scottsdale (4-3) won 2-1 in 11 innings

A bonanza of Giants prospects in this one.

C.J. Hinojosa 0-4, walk, and a costly error on a relatively easy play

Heath Quinn 1-4, misplayed a ball in RF resulting in the tying run scoring. Runner on 3rd, one out, fly ball to medium right. Quinn came in, parked under the ball, and then made a weak throw home. He should have backed up and caught the ball with momentum going towards home to get something on the ball. Not impressed with his arm.

Matt Winn 1-4, caught a really nice game

Garrett Williams 4.0-3-0-0-0-2

He throws hard, but seemed to be working on secondary pitches. The curve was working. He worked out of the stretch. With no one on base, he has a two part set motion. Feet apart, comes set, then feet together, comes set, then throws. Good start, and no walks! 51 pitches, 35 strikes. Good progress!

Melvin Adon 2.0-0-0-0-0-4

Created the most buzz last night. Big dude. He, too, was not blowing people away with the fastball, but was working with breaking pitches. 21 pitches, 17 for strikes! Of those 17 strikes, 6 were fouls, 3 were called (usually a first pitch curve), and 8 were swing and miss. Impressive. As SFGRTB says, he looks to be a solid bullpen guy. He and Moronta would be great!

10/20

Scottsdale (6-4) won 9-7 in 11 innings

C.J. Hinojosa 0-1 (.105) in a pinch hitting appearance

Heath Quinn 0-0 as a defensive replacement in the 11th

Matt Winn 0-3, RBI, 2 K's, but caught a really nice game. Lots of wildness on the Scorpions.

Chase Johnson 1.0-0-0-0-1-2

Johnson threw hard, but Nuke Laloosh-ed two fastballs over Winn's head to the backstop. Oye!

Melvin Adon 0.2 1-0-0-0-0

Adon came in with runners on, and allowed one of the two to score. The game was tied at the time, so it wasn't a blown save. Not as impressive today, but he looks like a major leaguer out there. Hit 95 with ease several times.

Sam Wolff (BS, 1)(W, 1-0) 1.0-0-1-0-0-1

Wolff began the 10th inning with a runner on 2nd. A grounder to the right side moved the runner over. An error by Winn allowed the runner to score, tying the game. Wolff also hit 95 several times. (Surprise is the only stadium in the fall league that is showing the pitching mph).

No games on Sunday. Scottsdale plays the night game on Monday, and my flight home is Monday evening.

Giant pitchers here look pretty good. The hitters look terrible. Hmmmm, maybe there is a pattern?
