Scottsdale (6-4) won 9-7 in 11 innings

C.J. Hinojosa 0-1 (.105) in a pinch hitting appearance

Heath Quinn 0-0 as a defensive replacement in the 11th

Matt Winn 0-3, RBI, 2 K's, but caught a really nice game. Lots of wildness on the Scorpions.

Chase Johnson 1.0-0-0-0-1-2

Johnson threw hard, but Nuke Laloosh-ed two fastballs over Winn's head to the backstop. Oye!

Melvin Adon 0.2 1-0-0-0-0

Adon came in with runners on, and allowed one of the two to score. The game was tied at the time, so it wasn't a blown save. Not as impressive today, but he looks like a major leaguer out there. Hit 95 with ease several times.

Sam Wolff (BS, 1)(W, 1-0) 1.0-0-1-0-0-1

Wolff began the 10th inning with a runner on 2nd. A grounder to the right side moved the runner over. An error by Winn allowed the runner to score, tying the game. Wolff also hit 95 several times. (Surprise is the only stadium in the fall league that is showing the pitching mph).

No games on Sunday. Scottsdale plays the night game on Monday, and my flight home is Monday evening.

Giant pitchers here look pretty good. The hitters look terrible. Hmmmm, maybe there is a pattern?

When we're talking about Adon, him hitting 'only' 95 concerns me

Like I said in an earlier post, he seems to be working on secondary pitches in the AFL. Dude appears to be legit as a reliever. Big league arm.

Yeah he's got a really live arm, just needs to refine pretty much everything. Fastball command, slider command, mechanics. I'm worried the Giants will waste his arm as a starter (a la Joan Gregorio) when it's plainly obvious he's only going to be effective as a reliever. Sure 10 years ago that sounds crazy, but in this era a middle reliever can be more valuable than a back-end starter, if used in the right way (especially in the playoffs).

But there's a reason they will have to protect this guy. Huge, huge IF, but if Adon, Fernandez and Black all pan out, the Giants could bring some straight filth out of the Pen.

Black doesn’t have the shelf-life. And he looked totally overmatched in the bigs.

I dunno about "totally overmatched." He threw 23 innings, not exactly a huge sample. Also, he had a 3/1 K/BB ratio. Less than one hit/IP. WHIP a respectable 1.15. Now, he gave up four bombs and walked 10 so there are issues for sure. But I'm not ready to give up on him just yet.

As tzill said, 23 innings is just simply not enough of a sample size. He's been around forever, but still just has 162 innings in his professional career. You could see in his stuff that it's elite, but right now it's commanding that fastball.

Scottsdale (7-5) won 2-1 in 10 innings

Heath Quinn 0-3, walk, 2 K's (.136)

C.J. Hinojosa 0-3, run, walk, K (.091)

Matt Winn 0-4, 4 K (Sombrero de Oro!)

Winn also had an error, his 3rd of the AFL

Garrett Williams 4.0-0-0-0-3-7

Strong start by Williams, who is being kept to a four inning workload. Control was a little off, but he has good stuff.

Scottsdale pitchers struck out 18 batters!

Adon is really helping himself out this Fall, and the scouts are really impressed. Went from being a fringe 40-guy this winter to a lock.

Nice to see the pitchers, at least, posting some good numbers in the AFL. Those hitters though. :rolleyes2:
