The #1 key to getting back to work (not just in sports) is testing. Having talked yesterday to a microbiologist who works at Ft Detrick, the technology is improving - better and cheaper and quicker turnaround - all have to continue to improve and likely will. If the players (and all the NFL workers really) can be tested twice a week, maybe they can get it done. Obviously, it'll be a PR nightmare if the rest of the country isn't getting enough tests while the NFL is, so the country needs millions and millions and millions of tests. I think we'll be playing this year.

College football might be more problematic - especially for the smaller schools.

They would also have to do one of two other things as well.

The first... isolation of all persons directly associated with the team for the duration of the "season."

OR

Test any and everyone who has been in close contact with those listed above, their family members, associates a friends, family members and friends of the original family members and friends and into an endless line of direct and indirect contacts.
Neither works because in the first instance there are trainers, agents and a host of folks who are necessary but can not be isolated. The second instance is obvious in how it fails to be implemented.

I am fully aware of what’s going on but that doesn’t mean we will forever and ever be shut down . If we keep moving in the direction we are then we should be more then fine

I agree that we will not be forever shut down but we need to be much more cautious about opening back up. In my state alone we have had 2,500 new virus cases in the past two days and over half of them have been detected in younger people with no pre-existing medical conditions. Check out what has happened in northern Virginia in just the past couple of weeks and you will find that we are not even close to a peak in containing this horrible disease.

yes , because you can take some ones temperature for cheaper and if the have it too high you send them home supplementing that with a test once a week would be the way i would start it off . if the situation dictates a higher level of testing then you can implement it .

we did this at all the nuke plants i worked at and it worked pretty well as far as taking the temperature it limited the spread

business's by then will be in full swing . more knowledge will be gained , more tests will be available , that is why i keep saying something would have to go horribly wrong ( something more horribly wrong for the word splicers ) for us not to be doing close to what we normally do
Why take unnecessary risks? We need to be vigilant - Otherwise we could go back to quarantining - which we can't handle doing a second time. It isn't like anything else. We've been told that by the only people who have a chance to understand it - the scientists. They might make mistakes, but nobody else is equipped to make those decisions.

Again, testing is the biggest key to getting back to work. This is the situation we're in. We can't afford to f it up.

I think you're going too far, but... it's good you made it because it shows the importance of twice a week testing - not once a week. Twice a week isn't perfect, but it gives you a much better chance of success than once. More than that, and you're headed toward a plastic bubble request, imo.

Are we going to have this conversation or not?
If so let's open it up full blown no limits. If not then I would prefer a total shutdown over all of this disinformation/misinformation that's currently being posted.

Virginia was awfully slow in shutting things down, and that's really catching up to them.

Very serious question here. I hear people say that testing is the key. Why? Because it leads me to more questions?

1- Which COVD test are we referring to...molecular or serological? The Latest on Coronavirus Testing: New Methods, Accuracy, and Availability- GoodRx

2- If a person has a serological test, what then?

3- If a person has a molecular test, what then?

4- How can we prohibit the movement of a free person when the possibility exists of false positives in the molecular test?

5- We know that you can be asymptomatic and still pass on the COVD. We also don’t know if there is an actual immunity to the virus. So what do we do if people can’t become immune to the virus? What do we do with people who are asymptomatic?
What if immunity to covid-19 doesn’t last?

6- Who gets tested and when? How often? Can we admit it isn’t reasonable to test every person who goes in public every single day?

All a test does it tell you who has had the virus (serological) or who has the active virus (molecular). We may have destroyed the US economy over a virus that we can’t become immune to, has no cure (common cold, flu, cancer), can be caught from people who do not have any idea they have the virus and may have caught it today when they had a negative test yesterday. The people who are at a high risk should stay home, if they choose to. If you under 60, there is almost no chance of death.

This may sound callous, but if you are 90 and die of COVD, it may just be Mother Nature telling you it is time. While it is tragic, if you have a weak immune system, this is also Mother Nature.

That is good news. If anybody can become immune, it is these people. Young people with no underlying conditions have hardly any risk.

I haven't checked but I wonder if Von Miller is well yet.

i dont believe the threat warrants the extra steps . we will never , ever have enough tests to fully protect 350 mil people 24-7 , 365 . wont happen .

and sweden didnt quarantine and they are doing fine . throughout the summer we will get more data telling us more people were infected then previously reported and then the mortality rates will be more reflective of the actual truth

i believe we should have been given the facts as best they could and let us , the people take care of the rest and the economy shouldnt have been stopped to a standstill

there are a lot of states that are opening up their economies too include militant MI and i expect sports will come back soon . i think the NBA is done for the year . i think baseball might get 1/2 a season in , i feel the NFL will be open for TC and the season will start as usual. could there be a shortened season ? yes there could be but if you are basing shit off testing and vaccines you are in for a long long wait

I hope the NBA comes back - just to do the playoffs. It should be easier than the NFL - considering there's so few players, in comparison.

I predict we start opening up (as we should), then what numbers will start to go up (because duh), then we will knee jerk it closed out of fear (because people are stupid).

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on this topic. Maybe we should open up a separate thread......
