I have had many an establishment refuse to even let me in... let alone... ask me to leave.
For some reason I believe that, even though we've never met!!!

Whose the worse drunk of the 2?

Depends on how one wants to define 'worst drunk'.

I definitely get loud. But, I'm a mellow drunk. I've had a few blackouts in my youth. slaton might have a different perspective of my worst.

My boy slaton... he get's crazy. That absolutely includes life threatening acts. Grabbing the tits of a WVU linemen's hot girlfriend while he's standing right next to her... doing Baretta power slides in the middle of University Ave... playing chicken on University Ave... to getting into fights.

If my memory is correct, Dana was asked to leave the casino in Nitro, WV because he was being too loud. He created no ugliness. Someone from the casino called security to have him escorted out of the casino. He simply left the casino and got a taxi ride to his hotel.

Certainly... he and his group were probably loud because they were drunk. Lord knows... nobody wants to be around me after I've had a few. I have had many an establishment refuse to even let me in... let alone... ask me to leave.
I can bare witness to that !

Good information to know in case we all meet someday. 35 or so years ago, I may have been able to hang with Slaton, I can handle loud. Today, there is an automatic shutoff valve inside of me. Last time I got drunk was off of Bourbon. Not a drink of choice, but wanted to keep up with the host as we transversed Bourbon bars in Covington, OH. Typically I stop drinking well before getting hammered.

That must come from age, I used to be what BB said, loud, yet mellow. The automatic shut off valve must grow in at about 35????? I enjoy a drink now, but couldn't tell you the last time I was drunk.

I’m already reading other threads. Mostly on Facebook and the smoking musket. We really do have a lot of good people in our fan base and we also have a ton of ignorant hillbillies. They are a disgrace. If King Ollie made one mistake he should have just cut ties with Stewart. Just pulled the cord and dealt with the blowback. Dana of course was an acquired taste himself but not for one second did I think he didn’t put the programs best interests first. I just go back to his first year at his first press conference named OC and HCIW and how awkward that was and then two weeks later he’s up there again as HC and how uncomfortable he looked. Then Jeff Casteel taking the unprofessional approach of dividing the team when asked to stay another year.. Dana did a lot of unconventional things on the sidelines and away from the field. But that dude was at the children’s hospital regularly. He made it a priority for the team to be involved. Everyone that I know that knows him personally can’t say enough good things about him and how generous he was with his time. And Nehelen loved the guy if that means anything. Dana found a new formula for success for recruiting that enabled getting next level kids to the campus. Something all his predecessors could never do. As everyone else I wished he could have won a few more ballgames. Certainly beat OU once at least. But whether you like it or not. He did become “one of us”. I thank him for guiding this program into a next level conference and made the team competitive. I hope if not now, that one day he can be comfortable enough to come back home ... I mean if Rich has no problems why would Dana be excluded !

I have no reason to think he would not be welcome to come back, he seemed to really like Morgantown, be interesting to see if he keeps his home or sells it. This was not a violent, angry split, but two sides split on details of a contract. The whole deal was handled professionally and with grace, on all sides. I firmly believe it has worked out great for all involved, Holgorsen is where he loves with a secure income, Lyons has his guy in place and showed he has balls aplenty to deal with coaches, Gee showed that he will give input, but he let Lyons do his job, WVU has an able coach who's philosophy is similar so players will fit, fans can finally put the Fraud/Stewart/Holgorsen time behind us and be Mountie fans instead of coach fans.

You two look like you’ve grown up to become responsible members of society. I applaud you both!

I don’t drink like I did when I was in school... but, I still have a good time every once in awhile.

Me and Slaton were at a good buddy’s wedding in September. I woke up so hungover the day of the wedding, I actually thought of puking a few times. It was all Slaton’s fault too. He keeps slamming Scotch down my throat... forcing me to do things that aren’t wise for an old man!

Slaton’s mellowed in his old age though. He’s all about the love these days...

I have to say, I've never been so excited to see a football season that I expect to be no better than a 6-6 year. I'm actually hopeful for the future of the program. FickLe would have been a good choice as well, but I feel Brown is the better fit. From what I've heard about Neal Brown, I could see him settle in very long term.

You old enough to remember Don Nehlen’s first season?

This feels the same for me.

Nice to see a good hire that is not the result of a drunken celebration or scandal started from within.

Cant say enough about that, guy might be a complete flop in the end but this sure feels like WVU FINALLY did it the right way. We'll see if it pans out but everything just looks/feels like the perfect fit for all involved.

Yes and I feel exactly the same, I remember Nehlen's first year like yesterday, there was a buzz in town. We had watched the football team have some great players and underperform for the Cignetti years, we were excited to see a former HC and Michigan man come in and coach our team right. When Nehlen said that he wasn't worried about beating sPitt and PSU, people were pissed, but they got it pretty quick when he said we need to worry first about beating William and Mary, it spoke volumes about what he had in mind. When the team went 6-6 in his first year it felt like 12-0, for the first time in a while, we had beat who we were supposed to beat, and played competitively in most of our games, even saw progress in how we played against the teams we lost to by big scores. THEN for 1981, it felt like we won the national championship each week!!!! I feel like that today, that we have a proven winner coming in, a guy who knows how to win, do it right! I am fired up!!!

Poppy said age, not wisdom and he would be correct. If it were wisdom, I would not have attempted to keep up with Burbon drinkers.

He said in his Houston press conference that his Dad and Mom was still behind in his house to sell it. So I guess he isn't planning on coming back to for any extended time.

No time like now. We should all plan to get to a game next fall...I think it could be a lot of fun or a full on train wreck ...nonetheless it will be sure entertainment!!

I think he saw the train coming maybe not as soon as it did with implosion of the conference. But he knew he and the school needed to get their ducks in a row and Stewart was clearly not going to be the long term answer. Who knew how true that turned out to be with his passing. Crazy right ?
