I never thought of them as one, but after Bret Bielema to Arky and now Gary Anderson to Oregon State, what else would you consider them?
Your thoughts Badger nation?

Stepping stones usually go up. I think he just wanted something different.

ARKANSAS is a better job and program than Wisconsin.
It has a national title, far more history and tradition, better recruiting, and its in the SEC.

I think that is a move upwards.....maybe not like going to say USC or Alabama...but still upwards

OREGON STATE, well that one is puzzling.....

They're like Michigan State. Upper mid level who'll never keep a good coach for long (Saban). Don't tell me Dantonio wouldn't have left for a better job if it was offered last year.

Think there has to be something more to the Anderson to OSU than using Wisconsin as a stepping stone.

Northwest Arkansas (Bentonville-Fayetteville) is a whole different world.
It is nothing like what anyone expects from Arkansas.

it is wealthy, educated, and highly developed growth area with no end in sight.
WALMART made it a little Millionaire haven. The growth mirrors that of WALMART.

Something like nearly 2000 major companies have some sort of presence in the area.
That means high paying jobs.

Companies have to be able to sell WALMART to get your products on their shelves.
WALMART can literally make companies millions or bankrupt overnight.

And if you don't build at least a satellite office in Arkansas, you are not going to be able to wine and dine WALMART executives. Ivy League educated powerful people are constantly moving to that region to be part of the "LOBBYING" industry of WALMART.

I hate the Piggies....but Fayetteville is great.

where's he from originally?

I spent a lot of time in Mpls-St Paul, over a period of about 18 or so years. Never lived there full-time. But it's just like another country up there if you're from the Southwest. Not bad at all, just completely different.

Maybe Anderson just didnt feel comfortable there?

edit: but now that I think about it, with a name "Anderson", he might be from the upper Midwest? Knew a lot of Andersons, Petersons, Nelsons, etc in Mpls.

It's not like it is some great mystery why he left. There was an article on ESPN quoting sources close to him saying that he wanted to leave because of assistant pay and tough admission standards. There was a longer post on one of the Badger boards last week talking about how the new head of admissions had turned down a PWO with a 24 ACT. We also lost one of our multiple good recruits the last two cycles to academic issues, including kids that went to other major schools (Pitt, Nebraska, and Michigan State for three of them, so not shit academic schools either). It's not like it is some great mystery why he left.

Throw in the talk about Alvarez's influence, and I don't think anyone is stunned that he left.

We'll get someone in here who can win. There are two great candidates out there already who are familiar with Barry and would make great coaches within our system (Chryst and Aranda). Either one of them would be excellent hires. I'm not too worried about it.

For all I know, Anderson could have been facing the boot in Madison.

He just got his brains beat in by a team with a third string QB. Bucky was worse off with him that before he got there. Wouldn't lose much sleep over this if I cared about Wisky football.
