My wife and I are expecting twins this Fall and are already doing some of these things. Once we know for sure what they are I will be in full swing getting the house ready.

Congrats buddy! Twins at that! You'll be a very different Swarm a year from now... :suds:

I, along with some of the others here who have expressed the same opinion (you know, that thing we're entitled to form on our own that you don't seem to like when it clashes with your own), think Ansah is stronger because of all of the pre and post draft hype about what a strong, powerful guy he is. I heard a ton of that talk from people who cover that sort of thing for a living. I've never heard anyone mention Avril's strength as a positive attribute.

So that's where I'm coming from.

You think Avril is stronger because he benched more at his combine and has been in the league for 5 years. That's fine, because it's your opinion.

Do you notice, though, that nobody is attacking your opinion and demanding answers for why you think he's stronger? Do you think that might have something to do with why you're debating with 5 or 6 guys against your single opinion on this one?

Neither side can be proven right or wrong, but your demanding, in-your-face style definitely doesn't come across as someone who is willing to accept other's opinions. It seems like your goal is to just badger everyone until they concede and say "you're right, Avril is clearly a much stronger dude."

Who have I attacked and when have I demanded anything in this thread? I just simply asked why you felt Ansah was stronger and told you why I felt Avril is.

Do you not think Ansah is going to be stronger 5 years from now after working with the Lions strength coaches? That is the logic I was using -- if Avril and Ansah were comparable in upper body strength when they were at the combine and Avril has had a 5 year advantage of working out with the Lions strength coaches -- Don't you think he has become stronger in those 5 years?

CONGRATS. Do you have any other kids? If you'd like -- one of my best friends had twin boys about a year ago. If you have any questions or would like me to ask him for any tips -- I would be happy to do so.

Congrats buddy! Twins at that! You'll be a very different Swarm a year from now... :suds:

Thanks! These will be our first babies. We're beyond excited. Cool thing about twins is we get to see ultrasounds every two weeks. It's amazing how fast they've already grown. We find out what they are July 19th. Right now we kinda think it's one of each. Family says Baby B already looks just like me so hopefully that's my boy.

I can't wait to be a parent. I work from home so plan to be a stay at home dad. I'm really looking forward to this next chapter of life. :-)

It must be baby time for Lions fans, my first kid is due in October. As my wife is a Packers fan, battle lines have already been drawn. No daughter of mine will root for the packers.

Take it from someone who grew up in Detroit, married the Wisconsin farmer's daughter, has lived in Packer country for over 20 years while working in Vikings land for the same time, let the kids come to you on these thngs. They're smart little buggers at an early age, figuring out how to manipulate things like team loyalties to play one parent against the other. I almost disowned one of my three when he told me he liked the Vikings, until I figured out that it was just because he was being bullied at school and wanted to take any side that wasn't with the kid's (and to a certain extent, teachers) that he felt were picking on him. Years later, he now roots with me for the Lions when I snag tickets to the game or watch them on TV.

Best advice to new parents - banish the television and read to them daily, starting when they are born. At least, talk to them while being fed, changed, etc., so they know your voice and find it a comfort when they are very young. Each child is different, but every child needs to develop a bond with thier parents.

Read them a story before they go to bed. Make it a habit that they want to happen over and over again. It leads to things like playing games and being able to talk. And trust me, no matter how much they're your little angels, some day they will need to be able to talk to someone, and you really want to be where they turn.

Of course Avril is stronger now than he was coming into the league, but strength has never been an asset of his game. Ansah is know for his strength.

I also don't think Avril is the kind of guy who was ultra committed to the offseason stuff, he seems more about promoting Cliff Avril than working his ass off in the weight room. Just because he has access to world-class strength training doesn't mean he's taking full advantage of it; it's shocking how many players don't.

I guess that's what it comes down to for me- Avril is a speed and finesse player, Ansah is know to be powerful and explosive...

How in the world can this thread still be going? The first time fathers is far more interesting. Although I think TMIAR will soon start arguing that his baby is stronger than everybody else's and drinks more milk. But in 2-3 years the kids of RB and Mebert will catch up.

Good luck with all those babies first timers. The Lions have a lot of baby stuff that is great, and dont worry about them being destroyed as was mentioned earlier cause they are going to destroy everything but the pics of them in those outfits last forever. Make sure to post when you get pissed on (or worse) cause its gonna happen, trust me. :laugh3:

That is awesome RobBase and I will keep your wife in my prayers to have a happy and healthy pregnancy. It is funny you mentioned the ultrasounds -- that was my favorite part of going to all the visits is when she got one of them. Wait until she is far enough along to have the 3D ultrasound. It is WILD. you can basically see what your baby looks like while it is still in her belly.

And my offer is out there -- if you'd like me to ask my buddy about some tips on handling twins -- I would do so in a heartbeat. It should all be very fresh on his mind as they just turned 1.

Well duh -- OF COURSE my baby is stronger!! I have had him taking supplements to bulk up since he was 2 weeks old. I figure by 6 months, I will start putting him thru 2 a day workouts and get him a personal trainer. LOL.

In all seriousness, when it comes to babies -- the only thing that matters is that the baby and mom are happy and healthy.

What did Avril do to make you think he was committed to promoting himself in the offseason? Maybe I missed reading about this side of Avril and if I had, maybe I wouldn't be defending him. I don't remember reading anything negative about Avril, other than when he was trying to get a long term deal and that is the norm whenever anyone is trying to get a long term deal. He seemed like a great pick by the Lions because you never heard anything about him in the offseason and stayed out of trouble, while producing on the field.

Gotta agree with MikeD on this one. IMHO, Avril never seemed like he was only concerned bout himself, other than the deal fiasco. Never heard about him missing workouts, camp, etc. he seemed like a genuinely good, hard working dude, no matter how shitty a player he was. ;)

I remember taking a road trip to Athens Georgia with my old man in 2007 to watch CMU play the Bulldogs. We tailgated with some guys from Florida and since they knew we were from Michigan all they talked about is how good Avril was going to be. Both were scouts and one told me That Cliff Avril was going to be solid DE for many years in the NFL. He told me that it would take a few years and the Lions had a good one.

Cliff had been drafted (spring 2008) by us that year but hadn't played a down. So I had a good feeling he wouldn't be a bust once he got the reps.

Little did I know I was watching Matthew Stafford that day and that he would become our QB 7 months later.

They were scouting him and a few other guys that day but Stafford was never mentioned in the Lions conversation. They talked alot about Avril.

CMU got blown out and the next day me and my old man went to Atlanta and watched Kevin Smith (rookie) get crushed by the Falcons.

Word of advice. Don't wear Lions apparel in downtown Atlanta on gameday. Even if your with a senior citizen (my old man) Just pathetic the way the youth acts. It's fun to rib and joke and take jabs. But it was getting borderline violent where you didn't feel safe for a second.

I sported my Sanders Jersey and it's not worth getting shot over.

You were probably in the gang territory where honlulu blue and silver were the rival's colors. Only so many colors to go around for the gajillion gangs in America.
