His agent says the deal the Bengals are offering stinks, that they are open to other teams. Peter King talking about it:

6. I think the agents for Andre Smith are making it very clear to the Bengals, and to the rest of the league: The offer Cincinnati has on the table for Smith stinks (in the mind of agent and player), and the door is open for some team to come in and steal him. Listening, Arizona?

All the money in the world, and they're lowballing him. Amazing, but given who Mike Brown is, entirely predictable.

I don't know about the Vikings RT situation, but Peterson would probably run for 2500 yds behind Smith. the guy just mauls people in the running game..

he's not really a top flight pass blocker in my eyes, but he's good enough at it. he's a good RT, and you could probably slide him over to Guard on the right team and he's be an all pro there for 10 yrs..

i know he gets beat by speed rushers, and i know there's question on his work ethic, but i'm shocked he's not highly sought after in FA.

I have expected him to leave since we didn't pick up his option two seasons ago. His agent is a douche and Mike Brown will not pay big money for a right tackle.

BTW -- Interesting that nobody has tried to get him. Maybe he's not that highly regarded by teams.

Newman was offered more money by the Raiders, but chose to stay with the Bengals. So I'm sure Brown believes he can pull off the same with Andre, but this time he's mistaken. I'm sure Butch has his "Smith stolen at the last second" article written and ready to go.

We're the only team with money to spend and we aren't spending it.

You wanna try and beat Mikey Brown in a Mexican stand off? Good luck!

Is that racist?

We'll still resign him in the end I think. No one else is topping our first offer to date and as time goes on there is less and less cap room league wide. Everyone else has the same injury/weight/work ethic questions about Smith that the Bengals do. Smith will go to the highest bidder, pure and simple. If he gets an offer somewhere else, they'll see if the Bengals will top it.

They won't. Once Mikey sets his feet in the ground they can't be moved. The team will suffer if they have to replace Andre. Mike knows that, but could care less.

I think he's a good player. But he only played when the Bengals were deciding to agree to the extension, and then again in a contract yr. He seems like a good bet to pull a Haynesworth once he gets his deal.. you've pointed this out.. i'm sure the leauge knows it too..

i don't think talent is his issue. but it is a passing leauge and he's better in the run game

Any deal he does get better incentivize the hell out of weight level bonuses and workout bonuses. Make it so he loses millions of dollars if he is over 340 when camp starts or misses workouts. That's probably why fat boys thinks the offer stinks.

Andre's had his weight under control for two years now. There should be no cause for alarm, and there's plenty of evidence he has matured as a player and will dedicate himself to staying in good football shape. They need him.

The past two years he had his option dropped and then was in contract year. Incentive. I agree they need him and as acrimonious as it has been, I think they sign him to a 4-5 year deal in the end.

I hope you're right, but I fear he's gone, and RT will be a big problem position this season whether he's replaced through the draft of by FA.

Hopefully they've at least talked to Eric Winston as a fall back option. he's still servicable, (I think?)

Maybe serviceable, but it's hard to replace the best player at RT per Pro Football Focus with "serviceable" isn't it?

in Bengaldom 89% = 100%
The Bengals are playing with a handicap, don't forget that.
That money is set aside for Mike Browns great grandkids cars, education, and mail order brides.
