I know i know, you read the title and thought.. Oh great another post by Shark predicting how we are fucked.

But rejoice friends, this one is a little different.

Yea Shark.. but umm.. we dont have the fourth pick....

Oh yea of little faith, stick with me. cause this shit is going to be more fun than a Roller coaster after a six pack, a bucket of Ribs and a Tequila and Ex-lax chaser...:D

So here goes...

First we are going to tag Kirk... the exclusive kind of tag. (ok stop groaning and work with me)

we dont care if Kirk signs or not, we just want to control where he plays if he plays and be able to get something for him.

Enter.. dunt dunt duuuuhhhnnn

The Browns. Flush with cap space and the owners of the #1 and #4 picks over all.

Now the Browns have more cap space than they know what to do with. And they got to spend it. So, we deal them Kirk.

Now the Browns are not total dunder heads, and occasionally try to do something smart. So they say, hold up.. we want Kirk AND the #13 pick (or where ever we pick) They cite that we did something similar with Bailey.

Bruce thinks, smoke dribbles from his ears (thinking is hard sometimes) But eventually he agrees.

The Browns then either Sign Kirk long term, or rag doll him as fodder to protect and teach which ever QB they took at #1, and follow that pick with a RB at 13.

Mean while we draft

Lamar, at four.. and the crowd goes wild. EHB5 needs a cold shower and Bruce changes his facebook profile picture to this...

url-3-10tjli1.jpeg

In the end, we got something for Kirk, we got the QB the front office and at least some of the fans want, and Bruce gets to say... I won.

And all it cost us was Vita Vea.. and the coach in a year or two.

*Bows for the crowd* :suds:

A few questions......

With the threat of having to play in Cleveland, even for just a year, enough to scare Kirk into a LTD with us?

Does Cleveland really give up the 4th pick in the draft without a wink wink deal in place from Kirk and his agent?

If this goes down would the Browns be able to reset the clock and start franchising Kirk at the bottom tier $ wise or is it player exclusive, not team, and our previous tags are taken into account?

The Browns do the deal for two reasons

1. They might be able to get a long term deal with Kirk

2. Even as a one year rental they can have the new Savior learn from a good NFL QB for a year.

If Kirk does sign with them long term, they can either deal the #1 pick, or take something other than a QB. If he plays on the tag, he is a one year rental and eats about 1/3rd of the cap space they are going to have to use p in any case. So its a win/draw situation for them.

Bruce could care less if we play the Browns. He wins because he gets to not sign Kirk long term, gets something for Kirk. Controls where he goes for at least another season, and gets to quietly smile that the place he did send Kirk to has a habit of destroying QBs. So little or no fear of Kirk proving him wrong by saving the Browns.

Browns? I dunno Shark. Actually that might be what gets Kirk to sign a LTD with us. Lol

So you are of the mindset that Bruce is offering Kirk contracts he knows he won't accept, because in actually he wants to move on from him.

Yep... because think back. When in the history of Dan Snyder owning this team has money been a problem? If Dan wants a guy, he simply says make it happen.

Mind you this is different from a guy simply not wanting to sign here at any costs (see Peytom Manning 2012)

But if a guy is willing to sign here, and money is the hold up.. money is not the hold up in Dans world.

So money is the problem because Dan and Bruce want it to be the problem. But still need to be able to save face and say well we tried real hard.. if and when Kirk leaves.

would be a horrible move so we lose both Breeland and Norman

Would be a stupid move. As I mentioned above. Money and cap space are a hold up because dan and Bruce (the cap guru) want it to be a hold up.

It's hard to imagine Bruce and Dan not using the Non-exclusive tag this year on Kirk, unless there's a LTD done.

I have a question about the tag and trading KC. If we tag him and then trade him, can his new team start the tag process all over again next year in the event they can't come to a long term deal with Kirk either? Or does the tag limitations travel with the player? In other words, given KC will have been tagged by the redskins for a 3rd, and final, time and then traded, could the Browns begin the tag process all over again?

Any tag besides the non exclusive one comes with an unwritten caveat, to wit, any trade on that tag will require the gaining team ( the one getting Kirk) to already have a LTD done in principal. Remember, even on the tag, except the non exclusive one Kirk can be signed to a LTD up until that tag deadline. Here are the important dates in that regard:

February 20 2018 is First day for clubs to designate Franchise or Transition Players.

July 16 2018, At 4:00 p.m., New York time, is the deadline for any club that designated a Franchise Player to sign such player to a multiyear contract or extension. After this date, the player may sign only a one- year contract with his prior club for the 2018 season, and such contract cannot be extended until after the club’s last regular season game.

The non-exclusive tag allows the player or his agent to negotiate with any team. If that team signs a offer sheet with that team his old team can either match the offer or let the player go for (in this case) two (2) first round draft picks. ( The offer sheet is in effect a LTD)

BTW: In the near term, that February 20th deadline is important for this reason.

1. Beginning on December 31st at approximately 4pm if no LT agreement is reached, then there will be exactly 51 days in which to sign Kirk LT before the organization is forced to either use one of the designations on him or declare him an unrestricted free agent.

SN: I also remembered that @j_y19 posted that he believed there was some immediacy in signing Kirk very quickly after the season. I posted this in order to show how much or little time they had to do that.

THats been debated. I think Brees sued the Saints for trying to reset the tag clock.
