LOL.

I was on the phone with a buddy of mine (who could have un-generally known info) talking about the manhunt thing. He said "OH FUCK! REALLY?"

I was like "WHAT!?!?!"

He said "Jackets fired Howson!"

I would bet my last dollar that it'll be Patrick. And Richards is as good as done too. Hartsy will get it in the interim, and they'll get a big name in the offseason unless Hartsy gets them into the playoffs from here.

Now I had to get off the phone with my one buddy and call my other who works for the Jackets.

My impression from the beginning with CP was that he was basically being brought in for this exact circumstance. I love Craig, but honestly what he did was get really, really freaking lucky as a GM of the Pens. So, good luck to him. He will definitely work to get a big name in town though, just his way.

Craig played fast and loose with the Pens and nearly wrecked the team. He did get them into position to draft Crosby and Malkin...

But with a hockey genius looking over his shoulder, he has a strong track record.

Exactly...really frekaing lucky :)

I was gonna mention '80. He loves having big names on the team...except that one time with those college guys. Regardless, I have a soft spot for the guy. He did bring major talent to this town...even if those were picks a monkey could've made.

Jackets Fire Howson | BlueJackets Xtra

Two key things to me:
"It's something I said when I got here, that I’d watch and evauluate," Davidson told The Dispatch tonight. "I wanted to make a change in that area. I've been thinking more and more about it in recent days. It’s a hard thing, but something I felt in my gut I needed to do."

Yeah, I read that at Howson was doomed from day 1.

Asked if the Blue Jackets' aimless play and their struggle to develop a winning culture were reasons for Howson's dismissal, Davidson paused.

"That's a fair question to ask," he said. "Sometimes change is necessary. It’s just necessary. When you make changes, for whatever the reason you make them, it can be tough on some people.

Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: YYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Jackets players addressed in a team meeting early today, office staff was told at noon. Remainder of the employees told around 4. Howson was hit with it first thing this morning.

Apparently not something a lot saw coming.

Dreger just tweeted that another name to be considered for the CBJ GM role is John Ferguson Jr. And you guys wonder why I mock Dreger.

Is anyone mentioning Craig Patrick as a replacement?

Because, you know, he already has an office.
