Seriously, have no clue what this thread is about, but WAAAYYYY back, I used to post on the sportsnet forums. Didn't post for a few months, came back and was banned. Was told I had been trolling under a different username, but they knew it was me because of the IP address. It was a shitty forum so I moved on, but they also sounded pretty convinced that they knew it was me despite being 100% wrong.

That or I have split personalities / secret gnomes that sneak onto my computer when I'm not looking.

Yeah, the IP check is a good tool, but it isn't definite proof.

There is at least one other poster on this board that most likely uses the same IP as I do.

Conversely, I use probably 50 different IPs just for me. I have a list of IPs in different regions so I can get around region restrictions and watch online TV. I often forget to change them back.

I let the mods know I could help prove it, if they want. IP is only part of the puzzle. Like knowing the kind of car the getaway driver drove. Only part.

That is why you should use a getaway horse - much easier to get off the grid. Old West style - it's an artform.

I had a funny moment this morning.

I'm driving in to work and I pass by a Geo Metro (I know, that is pretty funny on it's own) that is packed to the gills with clothing, blankets, etc. as if someone is living out of it. On the car, there is one lone piece of "flare" - a small Toronto Maple Leafs' flag in the back window.

I couldn't help but think 'wow, those mods have more power than we think.'

Exactly. Mods don't need to spend their time tracking and cross-referencing IP's because someone allegedly made a very hurtful, spiteful and cutting comment or two such as, "your team sucks", supposedly under an alt.
