It's not a stretch at all.

99% of the usage of that word will be black players referring to other black players. That by default makes it a rule targetted to specific players, making it discrimination.

I have no problems with us removing that word from the human language. What I do have a problem with is poorly conceived rules that are discriminatory in nature and practice.

We aren't talking about banning all offensive language. We're talking about banning ONE word. So if I was in the league, and called a hispanic player a wetback, I wouldn't get flagged. Or a jewish player a kike. Or whatever slur I choose is A OKAY as long as we dont' say ****er.

That's just inane and stupid. And NOW we're asking officials to spend time not only looking at actual rules violations on the field, but to be listening to every discussion and word every player says.

I'm sorry, but it's moronic. The rule has no place in the sport. The ONLY solution if you're going to implement this is to ban ALL offensive language, which is basically impossible.

The idea that some of you think guys can be fully emotionally into the game, and be Ward Cleavers at the same time, is laughable.

Bullshit, black, white, green, whatever, take a poll and the word is offensive, if a white person says it to a black person it is offensive, therefore the word is offensive, I don't care what black football players think of it, I guarantee black people in general think it is offensive.

You seem to have a problem with reading comprehension.

NOWHERE in my post did I say it was NOT offensive.

Try again.

Along with getting a penalty on the field, I'd be all for ejecting any ''fan'', using profanity from the stands. At least there are no women or children on the field

Fuck that shit!

Hey, I'm no boy scout. I don't say something if someone say's something like Shit! when the other team scores, but if someone starts dropping F bombs, the N word, or sexual references in front of my wife or little boys at a ballgame, I'll tell them to tune it down quick

As you should,(and as would I tbh) but ejecting paying fans for language is a bit much. If some drunken guy in your section is ruining everyone's expierience Im in full support of removing them. But I don't think words alone should warrant penalties or ejections. Eapecially on the playing field. Not when it's animals, beasts and monsters that we seek out to fill rosters with anyway. Football is a violent thing and a lot of things come with that. Foul, rude and crude language being one of those things. (This is simply the NFL pandering IMO.). Im not a parent, but I can't see myself taking my imaginary future kids to pro football games until they're ready to handle some of the ugliness that comes with taking in a game. (Not that anyone else shouldn't. But Im not sure if I could handle the situation of some jerkface in a "this is how NOT to act" way.)

It's not the banning of the word that he said was "almost racist". It's the fact that they singled out the one word and dont seem to care about all the other foul language being thrown around. You have to wonder why target that word but 'fucking faggot cocksucker" is OK.

:agree:

Exactly. Unless they are going to start flagging people for "any audible profanity" or something like that then it could easily be seen as racist. I'd be interested to hear how many white players would admit to ever having said it on the field? Incognito, maybe? Anyone else?

Asking them to stop using vulgar language in front of my family would be a request, but it wouldn't be an optional deal. I wouldn't confront them if I weren't ready to back it up. As I've said, I wouldn't make a scene over a shit or damn, but I've heard a lot worse

Saying it is discrimination is a stretch. Honestly - if that is the case do you think a lawsuit related to this would have a chance anywhere in this country? Please. Beyond that - big deal - it is a stipulation tied into their employment. Grow up and live by rules that really are not that tough.

We all deal with similar things in our jobs liking dressing up, not smoking, filling out timecards, not cursing in most job areas, etc. Why should these guys be immune to such rules? Again - not that hard to refrain from using a word for - tops - 70 hours a year. Time for some folks to grow up.

Another point some folks continue to miss is that this is also directed at using this type of language against black refs and at least one black ref was one of the major reasons for creating this rule in the first place. Perhaps the rule should be extended to include other language, but I am not too upset if some of these refs want to avoid being insulted in this manner.

Most of us have conduct policies at work. But they are not narrowed down to just ONE word. THAT is what is annoying here. Dont say n*gg*, but everything else is fair game? Why is the NFL going out of their way to remove one word from the lexicon? I understand cleaning up the language on the field, we shouldn't have to explain to our kids what Jared Allen meant when he came through on the TV broadcast screaming, "I'm going to take your fucking manhood, bitch!". But narrowing it down to just the n-word is stupid and only targets certain players. Either clean it all up, or leave it alone. This nitpicking is insulting.

I totally agree with this. The N word is a disgrace to anyone that would say it, but it's not like it's the only one. And if all the NFL is trying to do is make a statement for African Americans, they might try giving their Rooney Rule more teeth than a 90 year old with their dentures out

No problem - then just expand it to other words. My point is not so much about whether the rule is correct, but that it is not a big deal for these guys to abide by it. Honestly - can these guys act like bigger babies? If say someone at my work stated that starting today there will be no cussing anywhere well I would probably get a little ticked but eventually get used to it and after a while not really think much of it. Same situation here - there are much bigger fish to fry. Like I said - time to grow up.

The problem is that that in and of itself is not possible.

Players are not going to stop using offensive language. If a guy gets hit hard, and curses, that's a natural reaction.....it should not result in a penalty.

The rule is pretty stupid, and almost impossible to enforce. You are now asking refs to police not just rules violations in action, but then be trying to listen in on every convo on the field? Really?

Sorry man......your position here just doesn't jive. It's a stupid idea plain and simple.

I think faggot will also be banned. It's not just that he felt they were singling the "N" word out, though. He said it's a common word that he hear's on nearly every set of downs and constantly on the sidelines and locker room. His implication is that banning that word in itself is "almost racist."

I don't really have an opinion on it. I know it's commonly used among black guys and isn't accepted as much when said by white guys. It's the equivalent of us (whites) saying dude or bro.

Uh......its ok for black guys to say dude or bro.
Not exactly the equivalent you seem to think it is.

At our stadium, security will warn them to stop and if they don't they are ejected from the stadium.....
And rightly so, why should women and children have to be subjected to such filth as (f bombs and such) after you pay your hard earned money to come watch a game with your family....Our owner gets it, and although there have been some instances where it got out of hand, the rules are enforced there.....Isn't it a coincident that the out of hand situations came during a Pitts game here....Go Figure....lol
