As most here know I pick one 1st-rounder as a guy I think will be a bust every year. Been doing it since 1998. Here goes...

'98: Curtis Enis
'99: Akili Smith
'00: Rashard Anderson
'01: Damoine Lewis
'02: Lito Sheppard
'03: Rex Grossman
'04: Chris Perry
'05: Braylon Edwards
'06: Vince Young
'07: Jammal Anderson
'08: Matt Ryan
'09: Percy Harvin  :noidea:
'10: Timmy!!!
'11: Cam Newton - yet to be seen
'12: Michael Brockers - not looking good for me
'13: Kenny Vaccaro (wasn't the least bit impressed with him as a rook)

And the 2014 NinerSickness first-round bust pick is...

...Darqueze Dennard CB Michigan State! There ya go Bengals' fans. I predict Dennard will be the Punky Brewster of this draft.

Was very close to picking Kelvin Benjamin.

I would go with the kid out of Louisville, Marcus Smith made by the Eagles. Possibly the Pats with Easley because he may not be healthy.

If I were a Medical Doctor or a Kinesiologist, I might predict an injury case. But since that kind of stuff is impossible for me to predict, I can only go by players I think just don't have the skillz.

...that is unless they're undersized like Percy Harvin. But look where that one got me.

While Harvin may not be a bust his career may not take off due to injuries. So hopefully on the scale of HOF and Bust he'll lean more towards the bust side. His career may be derailed because of headaches! You'd have to be a gynecologist to tell if Harvin was going to be a bust.

I said right after we picked him, it looks like a good pick, but I do worry Dennard could end up being a bust. He just didn't play against any pro caliber QBs in college.

Oh, and nice call on Akili and Chris Perry. Eff both of those guys. Especially after the Bengals passed on Stephen Jackson for Perry.

Johnny football went to the black hole for QB's known as cleveland, have they ever had a viable starting QB? It seems like every year they pick a QB only to dump him the next year or two after they fail miserably. Add in a suspended Josh Gordon and he is heading into QB hell, no line for protection, no one to throw to and an ego the size of texas, it all adds up to a great big failure but since they dealt with Couch this is something they are used to.

As far as Marcus Smith is concerned, I agree it was a bit of a reach however if you consider he has only played this position for roughly one year after converting from a QB and he was second in all college football with 14.5 sacks, 18.5 tackle for a loss and 4 forced fumbles as a senior and thats all going off of raw untapped talent, I think I see what Chip is saying about the sky is the limit with this kid for a cealing. He is basically going to be Trent Coles replacement when he is gone and will be groomed till then so he has plenty of time to develop and if the strides he took as a senior are any indication of him developing as a pro we as eagle fans have alot to look forward to. I'd wait 2-3 yrs before tagging him a bust.

I watched Dennard a fair amount in college, the only concern I have is that he may get flagged for trying to be too physical down the field.

Sounds like he would've been a good fit for the Seahawks.

He is absolutely not a bust after last year. He had one of the best statistical rookie seasons ever, had a rough 2nd season with a lot of close losses and then led his team to the playoffs. If Newton fails from here, its because he has the worst WR corp and maybe the worst Oline in football.

(I know this is off topic, but I wanted to have a bit of fun with this...)

The Browns haven't had a viable QB since Bernie Kosar. The Browns have had 12 winning seasons in 40 years, only 3 of which happened in the last 20 years since Bernie was released by Bill Beeeeelicheck.

Browns winning seasons post-Bernie:

1994:
W/L: 11-5
QB: Vinny Testaverde (9-4 record / 1-1 in the playoffs)
QB: Mark Rypien (2-1 record)

2002:
W/L: 9-7
QB: Tim Couch (9-6 record*)
QB: Kelly Holcomb (2-1 record* / 0-1 in the playoffs)
*they played 50/50 in week 17, completing 7 passes each in the victory

2007:
W/L: 10-6
QB: Derek Anderson (10-5 record)
QB: Charlie Frye (0-1 record)

During the same 20 year spell the Browns have drafted 3 busts in the 1st round (Couch, Quinn, Weeden).

Cam Newton proved to be worth the #1 overall pick in the draft with a season where he threw 24 TDs, 13 picks, 3379 yards & had an 88.8 passer rating good for 16th in the NFL??? And one & done in the playoffs? This is the big, redeeming, bounce-back season?

If Cam Newton proved to be worth the #1 pick overall, then Kaepernick (a mediocre QB at this point) has proven to be worth the negative 30th pick.

Yet to be determined. He can play in the league, but that doesn't mean he isn't a bust.

It has to be manziel. He has no weapons at all.

12-4, in the playoffs, and thats actually 30 TDs, 13 Ints because he runs the ball, too.

Its kinda hard to argue with someone who thinks Kaepernick is a bad Qb though

Sign me up for the Manziel busting bandwagon. He is in a bad spot
